The problem is that know one else does the work so you can't go else where. I am just prewarning people of Rods work, Not CRS. He does a great job if you give him the whole car, But if you are relying on bits to fit it is very dishartening that you pay big money for stuff that won't fit when thay are sold as "bolt on". We did a v8 4runner conversion, my mate asked him which model to by for the best conversion, (different front ends) Bought the one he specified, when nothing fit he made the claim he had the wrong car. Took 4 weeks of stuffing around to get the thing to fit, in the end we ditched the $1500 kit and built our own. I don't like seeing people getting burnt by con men.

I saw this thing at the Culver City show here in L.A. two weeks ago and thought it was kinda gimmicky at first, but that motor stomped out my brain until all I could see was those long, beautiful heads under that double-belted blower. I liked it even more when a little girl p***ing by with her daddy proclaimed it to be "... the junkiest car at the whole show!" Aussie junk is good junk!

  3. Gee, I think you have me mistaken for a NooZillunder, eh!

And since when did you have such small feet that you fit into size 10 slippers?

FWIW, it was meant as a light hearted statement. I guess it's all in how you interpret it, or how much fun you are having driving your own stuff. :-D

I do drop by regularly, just don't stick my chin out so often. To many folks here like to take a cheap shot. ;-)

Trouble is, not everybody sees the joke, so maybe I'm not the only one needs to lighten up, eh!

  4. Rod is not involved in doing that sort of work anymore and anything you got from him in the past was I'm sure through his business, CRS. Fact we all need to understand is that in modifying old stuff, there's always a better chance than not that it won't fit and we'll have to modify even store bought parts. As for the vehicle you were doing the conversion on, do you know for sure that it had never been repaired or had any original components replaced with newer, later or different stuff? Our dealer tech's come up against that all the time. Y'kow, the car has been maintained by a backyarder coz it's cheap and then finally something he can't fix, finds the car back at the dealerships. Then the bill is huge because it's been fitted with all manner of cheap parts or stuff from wrecking yards that fits and works OK but isn't quite what it had originally. Who gets the bad name, the dealer who had nothing to do with any of the stuff that's not right.

Why didn't you get back to him and let him know your problem. Likewise, if you think you've been ripped off like that and the business concerned appears to not what to play ball, there's other avenues that you can use to get issue resolved.

I don't like being ripped or seeing other people get ripped off either, which is why I'm usually a little aggressive in getting things resolved when I'm sold stuff that doesn't deliver what's promised in the advertising.

  5. yeah, I know I'm gunna sound like a smart **** here but the one with the long heads and dual blower drive belts is actually a Model A. The model T has dual blower driven by a single long belt.

  6. I dunno.....I can't hear you typing from here.

It's tempting for me to just get mad, hurt and childish over this...but I really didn't do anything wrong in this post.

I'm so sorry I said anything to drag me into this foolishness...(shaking head)

You really need to reread this entire post as it relates to my input.
I wasn't ripping on this friend of yours! I was just joking with the regular guys, because we have had a couple of posts here dealing with using "other" brand valve covers on Chevy engines. Thats it...no hidden agenda. I don't know or even care about the builder...best of luck to him in all his projects...he's just another guy to me!

Find my post where I offended you (in THIS thread anyway...)and then go down a couple to my next post...I CLEARLY state that I'm just joking.

    Anyway...so be it.

Now...as for this post of yours...
"FWIW, it was meant as a light hearted statement." (I'm all for that!)

" I guess it's all in how you interpret it, or how much fun you are having driving your own stuff."

Now thats the SECOND time you've made the "driving your own stuff" comment in this thread!
Obviously you feel that I'm second cl*** or something because I'm not DRIVING a Hot Rod at the moment.
Well...perhaps I need a new Toyota or something... I could buy back one of my old rides I guess...but 'been there, done that'...you know how it goes.

Right now I'm BUILDING an off-road vehicle...an OLD Toyota FJ 40...and yes I have been for a while. Not much that would normally interest this crowd so I don't post about it.
I'll make an exception just for you.

In the last year, between family, health, money issues(not too bad thank-you, but I'm VERY...thrifty.), I've managed to do a rear spring reversal...an axle flip(to relocate the pinion housing to the left side, and no...it ISN'T turning the crown gear backwards.)...a rear centre torque arm...a disc brake swap (including making my own caliper mounts)...refit a Chevy trans crossmember(PITA!)...completely fab a full coverage trans/Tcase skidplate from 3/8th steel and 3/16th square tube...cut, redesign and modifiy a fibergl*** flip front into a raised fender "crawler" style hood that uses the modified factory grille bib as a closing point...Remounted the front axle 2" forward for additional approach angle...re-angled the leafspring pads for slightly improved caster angle due to the 35/15.5/15 Swamper tires I'm running...and some other stuff, big and small.

ALL that possible due to the help of a couple of great friends who willingly did the heavy lifting for me, which I'm not capable of right now. Without them I'd be ******* into the wind...BUT.
ALL welding, fabrication and design work is/was handled by ME...at a slow pace I admit. If I need/needed it in an accessible position the guys did THAT for me.
It will sink or swim from MY work...no excuses.

NO...I'm NOT driving a project right now. I'm a lame excuse for a human being in that and many respects. BUT I can't find any notice on this message board that says I have to be driving to post...or TRY to help other members.

This "lame excuse" still gets ******ic relief from half-*** designing, half-*** fabricating, half-*** welding (can't ALL be engineers you know...)and eventually, if he doesn't get blown up or flattened in the process, said "lame excuse" WILL drive this ugly monstrosity I've created...and then the 32 coupe WILL be getting its long awaited start.
I have most of my parts collected for her actually...just no space, time, money(CHEAPSKATE!) or need for an ADDITIONAL in-progress project at the moment.
    ****s to be me.

This is getting far too long...

Well anyway...when I first came to this 'HAMB' you were always here giving out GOOD advice. I appreciate some of the stuff you posted and many of the threads you were involved in were fun for me. I learned a couple of things from you too...I'll give you that and I respect you for it.
Now you weren't ALWAYS right...who is...but the discussions were second to none! LoL

    I should clarify that remark I suppose...hmmmm...OK...
EG: Remember a discussion over flat mounting the bellcrank of a Watts link as opposed to vertically mounting it? You stated it could NOT work due to the potential extreme angles and stresses being placed on the Heim joints and the centre bushing. Well, go find the site about the making of the Mustang used in "Gone in 60 seconds"...flat mounted Watts setup, mounted below the axle ***embly for a lower roll center.
    It works well...Imagine!
No big deal, I didn't think it would work THAT well from an engineering standpoint either! I think we overestimated the realworld articulation and the ease of controlling it...not to mention the willingness of some people to step outside the box!

You seem to have picked up a...I dunno...bitter(?) streak somewhere along the line since you left this place. Thats fine...it happens. Maybe its all of us..not you at all! VERY possible actually!

As for my admittedly poor bit of tongue in cheek Aussie/NZ slang...you once had a post describing how good friends in your country would often shock people at foreign airports etc by roaring obscenities at each other and appearing ready to attack each other as bitter(!) enemies...all the while basking in the fact that is was just a sham.
thats what I was TRYING to do...Just trying to be friendly...in YOUR way!
I'm not from your turf so I guess you didn't see it as a friendly bit of foolishness on my part.

I seriously apologize for that to you or any other Australians I may have offended. SERIOUSLY.

    QUOTE
"Trouble is, not everybody sees the joke, so maybe I'm not the only one needs to lighten up,"

Now THAT is quite possibly the truest words EVER posted here or on the INTERNET!

    QUOTE
    "Eh!"
    Hmmm...actually thats incorrect. I'm a Newfoundlander. WE say "B'y!"
You would pronounce it like "buy"

EG: A non-Newfoundland based Canadian would say..."Hows everything with Dolly, eh?"
A Newfoundlander would say..."Your too old to be friggin' around with a stuffed goat, B'y...get a grip!"

Come-on CARPS...fer ****sakes man...this "lets save Rods(?) virtue" ******** is too silly for words.
Is this the ONLY time your gonna post...when you see something you can dig your claws into? Why is YOUR defence mech kicking in for HIM anyway?
From what I've seen of his cars, shop, business, fabrication ability, I doubt he needs your cuddling.
Actually...he might be INSULTED by it...thinking it a perceived weakness in him on your part!

MAN...Get involved in important stuff and help out here instead of just *****ing about how lame WE have become in your shadow...

Go ahead and berate me for speaking my mind...but at least I TRY to help answer some questions around here.
Thats a claim you CAN'T make.

Why don't you get involved again...for all my pissin' and moanin' here today, I'D welcome you as a regular poster.

Ahhhh...yeah......alright......whatever? sheeesh...I'm SURE thats a big issue that needed clearing up...

Look Carps, This has got out of control, I am not a *****y winey person, I was trying to stop fellow rodders getting burnt. End of topic as far as I am concerned,I know what I have seen and delt with. If you check all my previous emails I don't complain and I am always forward with information. Lets let it go.

  9. You seem to have achieved that quite well. You can relax a little now.....

  10. Nope I don't believe you did, nor did I.

Well, it wasn't me who started it.

Fair enough, but there's probably more people than me read this thread not knowing the discussion that went on in another thread. Sorry if I can't read 'em all or keep up with everything on here.

You didn't offend me in any post, which is why I'm still unsure where you've got the notion I'm angry at you.

    Hey, we have concensus.

I'm the last person on earth who's going to think that of you or anybody else as anybody who knows me will attest, or can be confirmed by reading some of the stuff I've posted here and on the RRT or HRI over the years. Driving my own stuff is what I do, even if it has THAT badge on it. Your stuff could be a hot rod a custom or whatever the heck you want it to be, if it's cool or interesting I probably like it without even knowing what it is.

Yup, I sure do, in fact I did recently buy one back that I sold over 25 years ago.

Thanx, what are you using to make it move?

Sounds to me like you're having as much fun as anybody and you're not letting the silly issues like money or less than perfect health get in the way of that. Strange as it may seem, I think I can relate to that.

It's good to have freinds like that, guys who help out and stick up for you.

Sounds to me like you can be justifiably proud, regardless if you project is a hot rod or not. But I'll also wager that my slow pace is waaaay slower than yours. (and I'm not trying to get into a ******* contest here, just trying to help you know that i understand issue related to slow pace)

Of course not, it would no longer be a project, it'd be 'finished'.

Seems we have a lot more in common than you think.

Me neither, and if you did you might crash because it's hard to type and steer at the dsame time.

I'm still trying to figure how you interpreted that I'm suggesting you must be doing that (building or driving a ? project) to comment here, or anywhere else for that matter.

So you've seen my work then? Probably just as well I don't have a '32 coupe.

Been there done that, and I can confirm it sure does ****, but it'll get better so long as you don't give up.

Yeah, far longer than some of the stuff I've been given a hard time for posting.

Glad you enjoyed it, but I wouldn't say it was all good advice. They were fun times back then and it was a lot of fun for me too but I admit I just got a bit bored with the constant sniping and some of the at***udes. My problem on that score is I can give as good as I get, which I figure can become counter productive, so it's better just to lurk and shake my head, instead of actually responding.

I learned a lot of stuff too, some of it I've even forgotten and there's a whole bunch of people here I too respect and won't forget.

Never proclaimed to be right (unless I knew for 100% sure I was) and always happy to be proven wrong, that's often how I learn new stuff.

Don't remeber that one in detail but like I said, I'm always happy to be proven wrong. Although I'm still not sure that such a setup would be durable enough for long term use.

Yup, I'm sure I'm not the only one ever been defeated by my own stubborness, and I figure I won't be the last.

I don't believe I have a bitter bone in my body, however there's often something lost or maybe just misplaced in the translation or interpretation of the written word, especially on this here world wide web thingie. Personally I've never been happier than I am at this point in my life, those closer to me will understand the reasons why. Suffice to say, I'm still struggling to understand how my reply was interpreted as being 'angry' or 'bitter'.

That's exactly how I read it! Hence my response about your shoe size, which is a normal 'Aussie' style retort, issued on the basis I figured from what you'd already said, that you'd understand my reply.

You don't need to appologize to me or anybody else for that matter. As far as I'm concerned, you've done nothing wrong, other than maybe misinterpret a few words, which I understand is so easy to do in a forum such as this.

Yup, so can I keep it?

I had a best freind once who was from Newfoundland, but all he ever said was "Woof". Best damn dog a man could ever have.

But Dolly isn't a goat. Although I do now a couple of old 'Goat Ropers' livin in the midewest of USA.

Because he's a freind of mine, and where I come from freinds stick up for their freinds. I don't see that as anything I should appologise to anybody for.

That's something I'm definitely never likely to do, coz we don';t do that down here. I believe it does happen a bit up in Sydney town, near where Brootal lives.

Maybe, but since he's not here, we don't know. And yes, I do know he's more than able to look after himself.

To me, helping people understand the truth, or get the big picture is important. Y'know how things start, somebody says a bloke is a sheister after they've had a bad experience and before you know it, the whole world thinks that about him, when reality may be that there's no truth to the story at all. Or somebody says a guys car is a non running trailer queen, when in fact it's a hard running road warrior.

I'm never likely to berate anybody for speaking their mind.

I thought I was trying to answer the questions about the two cars pictured, or at least put people straight, especially since it appeared to me that the people discussing them did not know much about them. remember I was not 'in' on the humour of the other thread where you guys discussed rocker covers.

I have actually been pretty regular, although when life gets busy with other stuff, I tend to vanish into the haze. Usually you'll find me at the Friday artshow and sometimes the model car threads but of late I've been a bit slack with the striping and model cars. Although I'm well underway with a customised '50 ford Convert, using fins and tailamps from a '57 Chrysler and some other bits ratted from various kits. The other one is the Revell '30 Ford Tudor, which so far, I've chopped and channelled. Powered by Cadilac with six carbs, but I'm not sure what wheels to use although I think I've settled on candy gold for paint.

  11. Hey I understand your perspective and I've shared your anger at buying stuff that doesn't fit the way I think it should. But I also understand that there's always at least two sides to any story and regardless not everybody is going to see things my way.

I let it go, yesterday, but then you went and posted this today.

We'll probably never agree on this topic, but I'm sure there's many more where we will.

  12. Dissapointing.

This is a cl***ic example of why so many talented people put the 'stuff it' at***ude cap on and don't contribute to the HAMB.

    As an Australian I'm embarr***ed.

Please embrace your thoughts and post some tech.....

    :( Yes,
Save it..... And if need be, either use a Pm or better yet exchange phone numbers and talk personally about your disagreement. 90% of the time its just a mis-communication on these matters. There's no need to go out on the front porch and argue.
It makes us all look like trailerpark trash:) .
