I am barrowing this pic from Kartsa. My question is how do you bend the stainless on the curved portion of the side gl***. Or is it off a different car. Any help would be great
I think it is a newly fabricated piece rather than an altered stock one. It could be done with a shrinker/stretcher set.
I built a w/s frame using aluminum channel that was annealed and bent around a buck. It had similar curves. In reality, it was Aluminum plywood edging from the hardware store. I annealed it by sooting it up with the torch then burning off the soot. Gotta be carefull it gets SOFT@! it can be formed around a 1/4" plywood pattern and the edges tapped into shape. sand polish and glue in the gl***. FYI, paint the inside of the channel black and use black windshield urethane. Otherwise, lighter colors will show thru, like the aluminum!
I made some stainless trims on my wag using a tipping die and then dressed them up over a shaped piece of steel, I didn't get any tooling marks by using a soft face hammer. Sorry I don't have any pics, I will see what I can do
In the middle of the picture you see the type of bender I used for my frames. It gives you nice radii. But it is very laborious project.I made those four frames probably 100 hours.Bending is pretty easy, but make it all fit isn't so easy.
