Those pics were terrible. Less artsey more fartsey. Try taking a pic of the whole car not the headlight only. I'm just saying. Could have been nice. Thanks for trying.

Strange device there.Notice how high the shackle is (and out near the end of the axle). My best guess is that it's a link to a torsion bar alongside or inside the frame rail. That's a "T",not an "A".

You are just being lazy by not turning the photos the correct way, there is nothing artsy about it.

Just a couple of 17 year old kids having fun at a car show and showing an interest in HAMB type vehicles.I think they get the point already that some of us don't like their style of photography.
Let's see what they come up with at the next one.:)

Take a breath guys and drink another cup of coffee.

The pictures that they posted are a lot like KIRKS and art shots can be ok, I like some of
the angles. I think that it is kool that someone at the age of 17 is interested in our hobby.

Keep taking the pictures and posting them. I'm looking forward to your next post.

    Happy Trails, Mick

Agreed. A lot of the guys here are like grandmas that seem to thrive on drama. Not sure why.

Unfortunately due to multiple circumstances, I haven't been able to get out with the car this year, or even out without the car, therefore the "events" threads are my favorites.

Instead of being stuck in the house, I would have LOVED to have been at your show! And I think it is cool that you are finding the subject matter interesting and are having fun.

And sort of funny too... Last night I just got a new machine to scan photos and started scanning some of mine from the early 1980's. Yikes, they were a MESS! And that was back when you only had 12, 24 or 36 shots at it on a roll of film. You would think I would have tried a little harder, but I would never give up the days I had back then walking around excitedly with a camera in my hand being exposed to this wonderful hobby for the first time.

Keep it up. Hold the camera still. Turn the date code off. And, most of all, KEEP HAVING FUN!!

    PS: I enjoyed the photos.

This post cracks me up, since your avatar '57 Chevy is showing the headlight only, and not the whole car. I'm just saying.

I see that you are not a member of any social groups. May I suggest you check out the one titled "Photographers Corner"? It has a lot of members, many pro photographers.Good inspiration I think.

Tactful, constructive criticism is helpful and helps people grow and become better at whatever they are doing. Emily deserves our encouragement and thanks for attempting to cover a show. It's not that easy to do it really well first of all, and sarcastic, nasty comments certainly don't help anyone. The whole point of the HAMB, or so I thought, is to help people have fun with customs, rods and so forth and make friends and spread knowledge. I am constantly amazed at the number of people who will go out of their way to say something hurtful and nasty. I am also encouraged by the number who will say something nice. If there is something you don't like, and you can't offer constructive criticism, leave it alone and move on to something you do like.

First off, thanks for taking the time to post the photos.
It looks like you and your friend had a good time and that's what it's all about.
No car show and no photo will ever be 100% pleasing to everyone, so, don't worry about making everyone happy. It hasn't happened since the beginning of time.
But, if I can be of some help, I'd like to try, if that's OK:

    1. don't react to negative posts from people with negative posts of your own. I know it's tough not to fight back when people are throwing crap in your direction. Don't add fuel to the fire. It's hard to do, but do try.

    2. As a photographer myself for over 50 years, let me tell you about "photo rule one":
Never, ever let the public see your "mistakes". Now, I'm not referring to your angles shots or any of those that were cropped and shot the way you chose to. I'm talking about any that are obviously "just not right". You have several that are either out-of-focus or have a very soft focus.
Now, unless that was your idea for the shot, then I have to say they were mistakes.
Just don't post them. If they don't look right, don't share them.
The folks here on the HAMB only ever see, maybe, 15% of the photographs that I take at an event. Why? Because the other 85% either stink or are repetitious.

    3. It's not always possible, but try to make your photo thread tell a story. With your photos and some captions, a photo thread can have a tempo to it that will lead the viewer through the event as it happened rather than just having a series of photos. It's hard to explain what I mean here, and harder to accomplish.

    4. I always take a "stock shot" of a car first. Usually the time-tested 3/4 front view. Then do a few more to make sure you viewer know what the car is and what it looks like BEFORE you get into the car's details.
Let me put it this way:
If your first photo was of the car's engine, your viewer's would think "geezus, nice engine, what the hell is it in?"
So let the know first what it is, THEN take them for a tour of the car's details.
Now, the exception is if you were just throwing random shots of engines, interiors, car emblems, that sort of thing.
But, if a certain car is worthy of several photos, then make sure the viewer doesn't have to guess what it is that they are looking at.

    5. the thread that is deemed a success (in my mind) is one where your viewer finishes the whole thread to the end. You don't want them to walk away halfway through or because they get tired of out-of-focus shots that their mind will consider a waste of their time.

    6. Keep the viewer enchanted. Never put all your good stuff first. But, make sure your first few photos are really, really good. It's like a bag of potato chips. If the first couple of potato chips suck, you're probably not going to eat anymore. Keep them wanting to continue...

    7. Learn the basics. Always shoot boring shots first and foremost. I've always called these "establishing" shots. You are establishing what the event or car is. These are level, 3/4 front, plain-Jane sort of shots.
Your more creative stuff can come later or in-between your basic establishing shots.

    8. Think of your job to be half newspaper photographer and half artist.
You can't be good at one unless you're good at the other.
