I am thinking about running skirts on my 56 Buick special, anybody have any pics of a 54-56 with skirts on it. Thanks for your help in advance,

Maybe this is a stupid idea, but to give a good idea about how skirts would look on your car, maybe cut out a fender-skirt shaped piece of black construction paper and stick it onto your wheelwell with a bit of masking tape? Then you can see what it would look like on your car. I've seen shit on other people's cars that looked great, and looked like shit on my car, and vice versa. Some Photochopper might be willing to add some digitally, also. By the way, great looking car, looks so right with those hubcaps on. I can't imagine any set of "rims" that would look better than the caps on that car. Is that a 4 door?

I actually did the construction paper thing on the car, I have never seen a 56 with the skirts on it maybe there is a good reason for that, it just doens't look right on that car? Thank you, I really think the stock caps with the wide whites really look good on that car, and yes it is a four door.

Suicide doors too! A friend of mine has a '55 Roadmaster four door that's getting a Caddy 501 engine and it should be roadable in about a month. I'll make sure to send him pictures of your car, he'll love them. The black and red look great together, his car is red and white. I think the skirts take away from the sweet side trim moulding, it fits in with the rear wheel openings so nicely, if you skirt that area in, it takes away from the design of the stainless, which is my favorite part of that car. And this is coming from a guy who puts skirts on everything. A nice, dead-on side shot with the doors closed would make it easier for the photochoppers to work with. Hell, I might even be able to do it!

    Squablow,
I actually picked up a 454 big block chevy, that I was considering putting it in my car, taking the nailhead out and building a rat rod around it.
I decided against it and am going to sell or trade the big block.

    I concur.

Skirts ruin the great race style fender wells that are one of the best parts of the mid fifties Buicks.

    They just aren't needed.

I agree, I think it would take away from the rest of the car, and it just doesn't look right to me, I will not be running skirts. Thinks for all of your help guys.

I think they'd take away from it if you put THOSE weird skirts on it! The photoshop looks sweet. Check Nightcrawlers....

I'm gonna skirt my '62-everyone here has been trying to talk me out of it, but if you're going with the traditional kustom style which in my opinion, mimicked the lines of jets and boats, skirts are a must...

Stock skirts look terrible and bubbles or cruisers don't fit either. You don't want to take a way from the side trim, so it poses a serious problem. I think what would look good is to lower the rear quarter and use '57 Chevy wheel openings, then use a '57 Chevy skirt. Just a thought

Zactly what I was thinking..the photo chop makes it look sweet (not that it doesn't allready) but the factory skirts suck.

Here she is with '57 Chevy wheel arches. I also deleted the rear trim section. It would just look odd with it.

I looked at the pic again and realized that rear with stock skirts looks like someone punched it in the eye and it has some sort of half-closed eyelid going on...
