Wow, that windshield frame is an old old reprodcucion which used oval tubing rather than the factory Ford round stuff. Bill Shearman in New York finally had the original stuff made and that was the end of the oval frames and the special cones that weremade to make them fit the posts properly.

Wow! Interesting! So it's not a normal/stock type open car windshield frame??

Thanks for all your comments! I sorta' wish I didn't have a couple projects before this, now!:eek: Really something to look forward to.

Thanks Mark! You made me feel much better!!! ;):p:D

  5. Scootermad,
    You're nutz!!!

[if we were talking face to face this is where you would say "What about 'em?"]

OK the only cure for your insanity is a a two step program. The first step is one back away from the project.

The second step involves a lot of serious soul searching and philanthropy on your part. You will have to get that thing packed up and shipped to the beaner. Free of charge of course. :D

Looks like a good start to something insanely sick my friend. Enjoy.

It's gonna look cool, I just know it! I have faith in you to pull it off, but get the Murray done first! Don't get all A.D.D. on us! haha!

    My coupe.

Rails were reshaped to fit the body contour and pinched at the radiator. The body is channeled roughly an inch and the cowl panel will be reworked with a slight swoop up to the top of the frame rail. (similar to a Deuce cowl)

Been wondering about your build, Kevin! I need to go back and look at your build thread now.

Do you have a profile shot with it in this stage?

    LOVE IT!

Kevin I've always loved your approach towards hot rods. It's outside the box but inside the constraints of a car that would have been built back in the day. Nothing jumps at you to say this is a contemporary build and all of the alterations are smart with a definite eye for both form and function. That car is just plain rad.

Next is the '53 Pontiac. Then the coupe after that. Plenty of time to think about what to do...

But this view of Kevin's coupe almost makes the decision for me! WOW! Just... WOW!

Kevin, how many feet of welding do you have left ? :)
    Looks cool.

Scooter, I would go totally radical with your coupe, since that body is pretty hammered. No offense.
I'd probably channel it 6" over a deuce frame and chop it 6", you'd probably lay in the car, like Evel, but it can be made comfortable, think Eames lounge chair.

Cruzr's car is awesome!!! Another fine example on HOW MODEL A's SHOULD LOOK.

Or I guess I should say one good way they look is like Cruzr's. There are many way's to skin a cat.....but who likes skinning cats, you like building hot rods so keep dreaming up some possibilities!!!

Just keep Cruzr's and Mr.Ford's in mind when you get to far away from your center. :D

Scoot, one of the 550 cool things about Mark's coupe is the wheelwells. They're '32 and can be made to fit. Just a thought :)

Yeah! Randy's coupe is the perfect example of a Model A coupe NOT channeled on a Model A frame! Love That coupe!

Was wondering about how that fit would be! I've been thinking about that as well! I think I would also like to set them in when the chassis is done so that they compliment the wheel position when looking at the side profile.

One thing at a time, though! Or... three things at a time!??:eek::eek:

Nothing that you haven't probably already found.

Something small to note, but I think it's important. I didn't fit the rails to the body to get "flow"... or whatever. I did it because a few years back I went for a ride in metalshapes' roadster. It is essentially a unibody design with body and cleverly designed floors welded right to the frame. You sit inside of the frame and at 6'+ it is so smart. So fitting the rails to the body to maximize space becomes important.

And the mini channel came from cutting away the sub rails to weld the B pillars directly to the frame rails.

See that makes me rethink my whole "I can't channel my '32, I'm too fat" position I've been taking for the last few weeks. Hmmmm....

I was thinking that was another REALLY good reason to go with a '32 frame. I like the idea of actually dropping the floor an inch or two to get head room with a heavy chop and still have all that room under the floor for the mechanics and any exhaust solutions.

Any issues with your view sitting in the car? Are you planning bucket seats or a bench?

Definitely worth saving, but I thought you had a Deuce project up next? The Deuce body looked pretty solid if I remember correctly. Do you still have it?

Man I usually have a good memory. Guess I'm off my rocker today! By the way I dig that old pic of your dad! Get your "weird" (As you called it) modified on the road before jumping deep into the A coupe project, so you have something fun to "scoot" around in while you're building the coupe.

Looks like you have some great ideas and skills, so keep marching in the direction you are heading!

Yeah! Thanks man! The other hot rod is almost there! Home stretch after 5 years. This thing will be a snap by comparison... I hope.

I wish I could find the scan of the other picture I have of my Dad's coupe. Much better view! We looked for years to try and find that coupe. We have no idea what happened to it. :(

Hey Scott, Dreddy is right about the wheelwells. My scavenged quarters had no factory curve left at the top, and the 32's from Brookville are stamped with it. Made it easy to get that curve back. They had to be cut and re-radiused some, but weren't a total nightmare to make work. Mine also have a much shallower inset than stock now, which I like. Bump the coupe to next in line! Oh, and PLEASE hurry and get the Murray done! :D
