I have to go to Dayton for the weekend, to do some family chit. I'll be there Friday night (tonight), all day Saturday, and Sunday morning. I won't have much free time, but is there anything that I shouldn't miss?

    Howzabout cool speed shops?
    Hobby shops?
    Gun stores?

    Lemme know!

    Thanks guys!

Check out the Air Force aviation museum. They have all kinds of cool shit...lots of neat motors and nose art.

My mom got sick from looking up at all the planes they have hanging from the ceiling.

Go to a local pay phone and call the local PD. Tell them there is a bomb threat to the building or area of the graduation. Be clear though, this is only if they DON'T postpone it until next weekend's car show in Springfield. I'd say it would motivate some......

JUST KIDDING guys, don't get excited!! Hey, I got a lot of time off a few years back because of those things!

Steve...look up Craig (Scrapmetalart on the HAMB) while you're there. He lives in Dayton, is a WAY COOL guy, builds killer stripped down bikes, and is really into making jewelry and other forms of art from metal...you two should hit it off like Brothers, Man!

He lives right off of the freeway (um, unless he moved since I was there last!)

Shoot him a PM and get a phone number or address on the guy...trust, me...you'll want to meet this Dude, I spent half a day hanging out there last time I was in Dayton!

I have good family friends in Dayton. As already stated the Air Force musium is cool to visit. I also went to the Neil Armstrong Space Musium in (it is pronounced Waa-paw-ka-neta - I have no idea how to spell it) that is close to Dayton and that was a cool place when I was a kid, but hell anything like that is cool to a 8 year old. I figure I would still think it was neat, but I can barely remember much about it now. I always like it there in Dayton though.

Anyone that goes to Dayton and doesn't go to the air force museum is a huge FAILURE.

You'll pass Wapakanata on the way down from Flint; about 50 miles north of Dayton on I-75. It's about 13 miles south of Lima. Neil Armstrong museum on the right, you can't miss it.

While in Dayton you may want to visit the Deeds Carrolon (sp?) Park. I don't know the hours but it's right next to the river, south of town and close to NCR. They have an old filling station, a one room school house, some old steam locomotives, a lock from the Erie canal, a grist mill and other neat stuff. Originaly built by Mr. Deeds that was the founder of NCR. A visit to the Air Force museum is also worth the trip and is located east of downtown Dayton about 10 miles. Can't see it all in 15 minutes though.

    Have a safe trip!

I gotta reiterate the air force museum. I've probably been there 3 or 4 times. It's the best.

  17. I have always had the impression that Dayton is real car town, with some dynamite cruise spots.

    Can anyone substantiate that.

Ouch! I was only there once in Cub Scouts. Does that count? Heres the view out my driveway. That silo in the upper right is the museum's missile/space gallery. You always take the things in your own back yard for granted. WWS

You're right about taking things for granted. When people come from out of town to visit here, they always talk about the river......never even think about it....

There's a one letter difference between Dayton and Daytona, there's not much happening in either place.

I'm pathetic, and a pathetic soul is fertile ground for comedy.

Tell Kritz hi, he's a real good cat, I like him.

This might be a little late for Hot Rod, but there are several big cruise-ins on Friday night, but it's cold tonight.

I know where Ohio George lives and I'm pretty sure his no longer runs a speed shop. I think he just tinkers for close friends any more. How'd you like to be on that short list?

The USAF museum is always improving. I have a good friend who is a plane restorer there and always has great stories.

I'm always open to hosting fellow HAMBers for dinner, providing advanced notice is given. Plan further ahead next time...

Yep, Ohio George still runs a shop, and you should go in just to see all the cool shit in the shop, posters, models, die cast, all of his gassers. I spent at least an hour just checking out the showcases full of stuff. He's off of 202, in Huber Heights, just look in the book, he's there.

Flattrack racing this weekend I believe at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds, and Kil-Kare Dragway always has racing Friday and Sat. It's in Xenia, maybe 20 minutes from Dayton, toward the East.

Heath, that's her, us anyhow, we are coming to GG in Indy, we'll get a hold of you and see what's happening that weekend...

And Miss Grace Ann......thanks, I live here too........and I have driven the Caddy more in the last 2 years than she has...

    xoxo,

Oddly enough, this weekend is Hamvention weekend! I think that bar is still there, it sounds familiar.

Speedo, I stand corrected. I'll be the first to admit being wrong. I think I remeber seeing George running a black Gremlin back in the 80's. Crazy fast and unpredictible ride. Very fun to watch.

Rumor mill is spreading the one about this is Kil-Kare's last season for the drags, next year the roundy-round is done. I've been in the Dayton area for 20+ years and this goes around about every 5 years, only this time I think it's real due to some of the alledged facts I've heard really make some sense.

    Vance,
Tell me more on the Kil-Kare deal. I know that they had a couple problems last year, 1 or maybe 2 people died there, but I never heard anything else. Guy at work races there every Sat, or at least when the points time comes up and I didn't think he knew anything. I know that he likes to go to Edgewater and another place south? Payouts are better than Kil-Kare.

Yeah if you get the chance check out George's shop. It's mostly run by his sons now, but he's in there almost everyday, and all the engines that we swap in house that are going in something that needs high performance or just needs to go fast, we send to him.

  30. I'm pretty sure Fat Cat and enjenjo are from around Dayton. They're HAMBers as well as owners of the Rodding Round Table

Might want to get hold of them if you can.
