My sixteen year old son just bought, with his own money, a 63 2 dr hardtop Mercury Monterey, complete with working Breezeway window. He's nuts for old cars... guess the apple didn't fall far from the tree; he has helped me with my 57 Fairlane since he was old enough to hold a wrench. Anyway, after searching using 63 Monterey in the forum, I still would appreciate some addl info/input on this model, especially a source for sheet metal (yep, we have rust...) and restore/rebuild tips that I can p*** on to my son... I'm the helper now... he's the Mechanic! thanks in advance for any encouraging words and advice for a young HAMBer! Mark
The only place that I can think of that might have patch panels would be EMS. They have bunch of Ford stuff maybe they do a bit of Merc too. Could also be that things like rocker panels and lower quarters may interchange between the two. "ems customer service" is a member here too. Sounds like a great project.
EMS... too new a car for them, but thanks for the suggestion; will try Hemmings for a possible source there. thanks,Mark
There is a ton of sheet metal options for '61 to '64 Galaxie's. Most items like rockers, floors, trunk floors, dog legs, and internal sheet metal parts are the same or very similar for the Monterey's as the Galaxie's. Other external components like quarter panels and door skins are different. I had to make the rear quarters on my '62 Monterey, but I was able to by the front floor and rockers for a '62 Galaxie. Try searching Galaxie sheet metal parts, you should come up with more options. Good Luck.
yep on trying similar year Ford parts... may have to go to that if search fails on locating Merc items. Pictures are on the way! thanks again for the input. Mark
Correct. I never looked REALLY close at the doors until my buddy was restoring a 63 Marauder HT. The top part of the door, the part that you would lean your arm on if you had the window down, is just BOLTED on. Turns out a 63 Galaxie door is the same part. Never would have believed it until I saw it myself
Just received some NOS rocker panels from an outfit called Black Car LLC. Now the hunt is officially on for parts. May have scored some 14 in Ford stock wheels and brake drums today at a local junk yard. Also got a lead on yards in Ft Worth and Oklahoma for more body parts. Pictures soon as I have some that are worth looking at. thanks to all for the interest. Mark
Check your engine size. I had a black convert in '69, kept putting 390" head gaskets on. Ran fine for 20/30 min.,then have water in the oil. All big blocks are not the same.

I have a 64 Monclaire 2 door breezeway, cool cars. Get used to hearing at EVERY show "never see a 2 door, always 4 doors."
I have a pair of NOS taillight housings and I think some back=up light lenses from when I had my s55.
No, but send me a list in pm of what you are lookig for and I'll keep my eyes open. I see them pop up on CL, but my car is a driver and I dont need extra parts.
