Well with the same size turbo on my 302 ci Ford, I ran 10 pounds and there was alot left but the chassis just wasnt there for it. I will be running a manual boost controller on this setup so 7 pounds of boost is as low as its going to go and with the controller I can go up to about 15 pounds before I need to step up to a stiffer wastegate spring. Im thinking that 12-16 pounds of boost is where these turbos will peak out. They would probably still make power at 20 psi but at the expense of huge back pressure and a very hot compressed air entering the carburetor. 12-15 lbs should be at the edge of their efficiency or their sweet spot.

Yeah especially considering the motor isnt bolted to anything. I wanted to get the rearend as close as possible to its final location so I could fit the motor where it will need to go. This way while Im waiting on cash for the tubing I have something to do. What Im hoping for is to finish the turbo/motor stuff this next week then I should have some cash to get some tubing bent up for my hoop. If all goes well I should have a good handle on this thing by March and might be racing come May. Hopefully:cool:

I dig this setup. Nice work. The charge pipe looks good, but what about running a Y pipe where the two charge pipes come together at the bottom. Then a single charge pipe into the carb hat? Or what about an air-air intercooler mounted vertically where the two pipes are?

I really wanted to run an A/W intercooler or possibly even a narrow A/A intercooler but I dont think anyone would have used one in a dragster in the '60s. I will probably be running a water/methanol setup to help cool the charge anyway and thats something that can be disguised.
The reason for using 2 small pipes as opposed to a larger one is to keep the area inside the tubing small. The more volume the charge pipe holds, the less total boost I can run.

I have the charge pipe finished finally. I have been saving some cash for my order of roll cage tubing so there hasnt been too much fabrication going on. Im really at a bit of a stand still until my top hoop is in place. Its looking like it will be another 2 weeks until it gets here.
Anyway Im glad to be finished all the turbo related fab, its one less thing to have to deal with. Now I can concentrate my efforts on building the cage, uprights and some new rear housing brackets. Here are some updated pictures.

This picture right here shows why I built the charge pipe the way I did. From the drivers seat the charge pipe does not interfere with my view of the track.

Since I need a blow off valve and dont want it to be an eyesore, I put it directly behind the bend in the charge pipe. This was the only place where I thought it would function good as well as stay somewhat hidden.

Yeah its freezing outside. Years ago when I read about turboed small blocks in car magazines, they were allways exotic high $$$ builds using expensive EFI. I allways had the image of twin-turbo builds being big money, so I never paid any attention since Im not into throwing lots of money at a car. It was about 2004 when I stumbled apon a site called toohighpsi.com, it was an owner operated small site dedicated to this guys project cars. I cant remember his name but he built a few twin turboed 351w and 302 powered Capris, Mustangs and a Thunderbird. He used cheap, self modded blow thru carbs and junkyard turbos. His cars were full weight, full interior street cars built CHEAP using junkyard stuff and they all ran deep into the 10s. It was this guys stuff that inspired me to try the cheap blow-thru method using inexpensive 4 cylinder based turbos.

Sorry for such a long delay guys. I have been at a stand still with the project since early February. My garage has been getting flooded pretty bad with the snow melting and there is so much condensation that I have covered the rail up until it gets better. The garage is level with the ground, so any water that gets on my lawn will come right into my shop. This year has been the worst by far and I think I have had enough. I have another garage on my property that I have plans to set up as my new shop. If I do it this year then I will be spending the majority of my summer working on that.
