Naaahh..if im going to do it, it will be with a 6-71 or I'll stay with my 3x2 offy intake and be happy..maybe put one on another one of my cars
To add something to the O/P and his thread heres something to consider. If its an older SBC WITHOUT a drilled crank snout for the balancer, I would first consider that is a MUST. Not expensive and quite simple to perform yourself, but I would make it a top priority, TR
Nothing wrong that....we put my little 600b procharger on my nephews 80 Malibu....350 shortblock out of my coupe....pair of sr torquer heads and small unknown hyd cam....went 13.40's on motor....12.00 with blower @ 6 pounds ( slipping belt).....plus, for the traditional post police, they've been around since the 50's....lol Now, if anyone wants to donate a 4-71 or worse case, a 6-71....I will do mileage and performance test for daily activity and weekly bracket racing.....lol
In addition to what traditions posted, I would suggest adding a good balancer rated for a blower application and replacing the woodruff with keystock. The crank snout takes the most abuse spinning a blower in my opinion. Andy
I had a Model A Coupe with a SBC and 4-71,2" drive pulleys, (wished I had V-belts!) dual AFBs and 2" air cleaners, hood just cleared and I mean barely! Car had a Muncie and I had built my own adapter to use a ****** mounted E-brake handle, 20 years ago that was very unusual with a Muncie.
According to post#23, yes, I had it backwards. My 6-71 is still painted GMC diesel green and sitting on a shelf in the garage, I've never set one up.
I would like to drag this to the top. Anyone else running them on sbc? What carb setup are you using?
Just my thoughts but for the price of a blower drive kit you could build a really potent SBC. If all you want is a wow factor then let your checkbook be your guide.
Just always wanted a blown hot rod and I'm not getting any younger. I'm throwing together a 671 gmc. A little cheaper than buying new.
I put a Turbo on my stock 305 (79 ElCamino) and when I "Got on it" , I would get 9# of boost, ran it like that for years, The one thing I did not do was to upgrade my Ignition system and it would tend Break-down(minimalize spark) at full boost and the system would go rich.
