I have a 53 Merc front bumper that a guy in Michigan wants, and while I've taken it apart (11 pieces), three pieces are oversize by a lot. Since it needs plating, it's pretty cheap, but the shipping I've been looking at is more than it's probably worth. Does anyone have a good idea on a reasonable way to ship this? Thanks, Rob
Greyhound station to station. You can ship a box 82x47x30. One side has to be 30 or less. PLEASE WRAP IT IN BUBBLE WRAP AND PUT IT IN A BOX. Put address/telephone # on box. You can do Greyhound online and print everything from your computer. You must know nearest station that takes freight on your end and nearest on the Michigan end to the guy your sending it to. Nick
I shipped a 51 Rear bumper from Yakima To Chicago and the cost wasn't that bad. Probably the cheapest would be Greyhound though if you can work the station to station thing from there. Furniture stores often have boxes that things like bumpers will fit in quite well that can be stiffened up with a bit more cardboard inside. Big blocks of Styrofoam from packages like tv's or what not fill space and protect and don't add measurable weight.
i shipped a fully assembled 26 Model T pickup box with tailgate from detroit to new jersey last summer. $109 and some change. greyhound is cool man. i think the greyhound package express in detroit is 1001 porter st. i will double check.
I would definately use greyhound,as long as there is a bus station reasonably close by. I shipped a pair of 40 chevy front fenders from pennsylvania to arizona for $73.00. I taped them together with duct tape and dropped them off at the bus station(no box,wrapping or anything but duct tape). The max insurance is 300.00 on a shipment,but that was included in the $73. price.
Go to the Post Office and ask them for a price. I had a set of Avanti hog troughs shipped to me for $65. They are bigger and heavier than your bumper. Bob
