Yes, you can, and should! banditomerc posted some excellent pictures HERE: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=570878&highlight=ayala+tribute
What car specifically, and what do you mean by moulding in? If you mean the gap between the fender and the body, I did that on my '37 Plymouth by bending a 1/4" diameter rod to match the curve, welded it in, then ground down the welds and used body putty to smooth it all out.
Yes.Mine's a '41 Ford.I pictured doing just what you did then I saw a picture Rik posted where the Barris' used pre-shaped metal and welded it in.
I only did the rear fenders, can get you a pic of the final result tomorrow, didn't take any while I was doing it.
If you check out my build thread listed in my sig I molded them in on my 47 Ford...not just welded to the body but I cut some metal ,shaped and welded it on...its not anywhere near primer yet but you can see the metalwork atleast...
Normally, I am all for people trying new things but I really think you'll regret that later. All the ones I've seen cracked after awhile, especially if you have a hot motor. I just think that is one of those things that is cool at first and then you hate it after awhile. Ask me how I know....
I welded my fender filler panel to the fender and the rear fenders to the body. I used a series of pieces of steel with a bend to give me my rough radius between the fender and body. I'm definatly not a body man but that was one of the easier(tedious) tasks.
thanks. the bridge pieces were the key. like 2 inch by 1" pieces with a bend for the redius. using such small pieces made it easier to go with the profile of the fender. I wish I was better about taking pics as I did the work. good luck with your build
LOOK UP the ones I did on the 41 ford chop post, I cut peices in about 2 ft lengths and welded them on over the fender to body, after i tacked the fenders to the body in mant places. you can do it! cut some templates out of poster board and transfer to metal weld slow , jump around and dont warp it.
Now THAT'S what I'm lookin' for! I forgot about that build even though I subscribed to it.Nice work! Thanks Jeff!
