I just got all the running gear from a 53 ford customline i wanted some opinions should i use the ****** and rear in my 29 A coupester or go the typical route and get an adapter to run a toploader trans and banjo rear.

I say go with what you got. It is cheaper, and will work fine as a unit. Plus, it was cool back in the late 40s to put column shift trannies in roadsters so your girl could sit closer to you as you cruised! Use the setup you have in my opinion.

Run what you already have until it breaks.

  4. hey man,

run a 5 speed box instead of the ford part. the single best value for money speed part for a flathead is a 5spd gearbox - supra, celica, t-5 (?) and I know alot of HAMBers on here run one. The extra gear or two help with acceleration and drivability and the OD 5th means you can run a better rear end ratio for acceleration and still not loose out on the highway.

That all depends on how much $change$ you have and/or willing to spend. If it was me, I'd run what I have and get the car on the road. Using the spared cash for decent suspension and brake parts.
