    Hi,

After trying almost everything i still got backfire in my carb.
I think the engine needs to be overhauled big time.
Now here's the thing, there's this guy who heard about my 259 poly
engine that's in my Jobrated pick up truck. He offered me big money (i guess 1000 euro is alot isn't it?) for this engine, if it needs to be overhauled or not.
Along with the money he offered me his late 60's 318 with new distributor and carburator. Is it possible to put a 318 into a Dodge Jobrated 1955?

    Grtz Danny

Up to '61 will bolt in, '62 & up have the modern bell pattern & crankflange, won't bolt up. You'd need engine & ******.

So i need a other ****** aswell? But a late 60's early 70's will fit together with for example a 727? I still have to make some new motormounts don't i? And maybe replace the crossmember a bit? Or am i thinking to much?

A 62 & up 318, A or LA will bolt up to any small block ****** 904/727 from 62 up. There are a lot of cheap vans & pick ups out there for getting 727s out of. They also they have the rear sump pans if your engine is rear sump. If so grab the pan, oil pick up, dipstick & ds tube off the engine. Fabing a ****** crossover is easy & cheap if you can weld. You'll lose your parking brake(it's on the ******) so a newer rear axle would be good also. motor mounts shouldn't be too hard to figure out, probably the ones on the 318 with new frame brackets.

Typically backfire is a timing problem. If you run a compression test & you don't have a burned int valve, you should be looking @ timing. The Comp test will also tell you if it needs an overhaul. Don't junk the engine if you decide to get the 318, Hemi guys like to convert them into Hemis!

    ...good place to start.

A backfire problem is not likely an overhaul issue, just a tuning issue. It would be less work to find a mechanic with good diagnostic skills than to swap the engine/trans/rear axle.....unless you really want a newer engine.
