120 in a 59 T-bird near Needles, California. 1973! Big CHP cruiser pulled up along side of me and gave me the slow down gesture and proceeded to pass me by like I was standing still. This summer, I was doing about 95 in my HHR panel truck until the twisty part of the road came. I think that little tin pot could hit 100.
Had my '93 Mustang Cobra to 150 a couple of times. The old 750 triple Kaw was above 125 on a regular basis (and I lived). Fastest I went on the strip was about 145, and the 'glass front on the '84 S/G Charger had a mind of it's own. I'm too old to do any of that again.
iv never been one to really speed on the pavement.. on the dirt hell yeah, and it killed me. hah. 2 mins dead.. crawled for mile and half with a compound fracture to left distal femur.. took me two days to find help crawling, and 2 years to learn to walk again.. no idea how fast i was going but the trotle stuck wide open on a corner and boom tree head on.. i was on my built RM 250 geared to haul ass. was passenger at a 120 in my friends brothers challenger.. fell in love with it.. but me, personally i dunno how fast iv been.. always raced the clock not the speedo. and yeah since i always kept my life in the fast lane off pavement and in the dirt.. i can say iv never got a speeding ticket.. i sure enjoy my low insurance rate. cheers. have fun but try to be safe.. trust me it sucks when you crash and burn.. chris. p.s the clock always win..
168 MPH in my 2001 Z06. Sure makes you appreciate how fast the NASCAR driver's drive with only inches between them (at 200 MPH)
126 im my 75 camaro had 350 LT1 from vette in it met the cops he flipped the lights on i hit the brakes but he kept going didnt figure i was going to make the turn i guess i made it
142mph in the wifes cts-v in 5th gear. Had another gear to go but no more straight road. Had the speedo spun back to 20mph in 72 c-10.
I never really looked down long enough to see the speedo, but the state troopers put turn arounds every mile on the highway going through a local island after the 5 th or sixth time I out ran`em going to work.
95 in a company truck out around Christmas Valley, Or. It was a Chev S-10 Blazer and started getting real light in the feet so backed out of it. Figured the "boss" wouldn't see the funny if it was stacked up along side the road.
183 in a twin turbo all wheel drive dodge stealth I repoed. It was a voluntary repo and the owner warned me it was really fast with all the after market goodies I wanted to hit 200 but my partner wouldn't stop screaming
140 in a 87 Mustang GT convert passing a buddy in his Honda Accord, he said it almost knocked him of the road, he was doing 55. Been 155 in a Drag Hydro, 8 second ride in the 1/4 mile on water. And lastly 145 on LV speedway in a nascar, Richard Petty school.
In high school, had my OT 71 Olds 98 LS 455 sedan pegged! (over 120) Made a two way pass to make it official.
An estimated 110+ in the 54 Chevy on rt15 (Merit Pkwy) on the way to Tarrytown for GM tech school. 120+ in the 55 Buick on I384 several times. Did run out of gas at 115 coming over the Glastonbury Rt3 bridge once. 140 in a Subaru STI on I84. 160 (speedo) at Beaver Run raceway in an Subaru STI on the back stretch. Used to think nothing of 100+ when running through the gears on the backroads, or racing at night. Must be getting old, even the music seems too loud now...
67 chevy II , well worked up 283 ,coming home from court for tickets received on the harley . i was a little upset for the points on the license , and i may have been speeding again when the state trooper was coming the other way. at that moment ithought if i was going to be getting walking papers it was going to be a chase . the old nova was alot faster when your scared and those drum brakes not so good. got it home got it hid , didnt drive it for weeks no idea how fast it was that day but way faster than it should have been
Well north of 150mph in my '99 'Vette , took eyes off speedo as I was toying with another car , and a tick over 155mph on my Triumph Daytona .
When I was 18, my stepdad had a '68 Dodge Polara with a 383 that used to be a local Township cop car. I was coming back from Atlantic City and got into a race with some clown in a '62 Chevy and was clocked at 137. Needless to say, I saw the inside of a jail cell that night. From that point I tried to keep it on the track, where the fastest I've been is 198 in a dragster. I was going to spray it just to say I'd run over 200, but an IHRA official warned me that if I ran over 200 without a HANS device, I'd be eliminated from competition, so I left it alone. Since then, my friend sold that car and now we're in some slow door cars... Well, if 183 mph is slow One other street incident was a few yeas ago in my Z-06 Corvette. I had it up to 163 and I got to thinking that even though I have a lot of friends in law enforcement, I really don't know of ANY-body that would be able to get me out of trouble for this one, so I backed her down. One thing that was so wierd is that when I slowed down to about 90, it felt like I ws running 35!
One other event, this past May I ran my '32 Hiboy roadster in a rally with 23 motorcycles. I went 717 miles, made 10 dedicated stops (3 for gas and 7 to pick up "points") all in 11 1/2 hours. My average speed was just over 62 mph. Factor in at least 6-7 minutes per fuel stop and 3-5 minutes per "points" stop and I figure I averaged closer to 68-70 mph. During the day, I went through 3 Florida downpours totalling probably 20-25 miles and altogether rode in the rain for almost 150 miles, all without the top on the car. It was an absolute blast! I finished 10th out of 24 entries and I really impressed some of the LDR guys that do this at least once a month. Next year we are hoping to have more cars involved. If you are interested, check out www.edslastresortrally.com I'd love to see some more cars and trucks involved.
I did 100 MPH - ya lame- but It was an Escort wagon in Germany on the Autoban As a 6 year old or so, I got a ride in a Mako Vette. In 6 short city blocks I got pinned to the seat and could not move my arms. No clue how fast, but the ride always stuck in my head. The 14 years on the rescue squad and a bunch of them with a 68 Mustang. I found 85 around town was quite possible and drum brakes tend to fade A LOT with frequent stops! Good thing some stop signs did not have any traffic, cause the car was NOT stopping- no matter how much I really wanted it to stop.
