Anybody have any idea what the cowl is from? It seems like it had a wooden firewall and was suggested it may be Buick? I bought it fri at Carlisle because I figured I'd need it someday!
I'm thinking more on the lines of Dodge. Dodge and a couple of others had the windshield posts on open cars come up through the top of the cowl like that.
that would be perfect for my needs, and price right too.. i plan on building a wood body roadster.. and want a cowl ( reason for the cowl is more so i can its that year of a car hah. ).. may end up just building that too if i cant find a cowl for cheap. chris.
I have been thinking along the same lines with tha '28 Chevy cowl I found. Didn't know if a wood bodied roadster had ever been built before but may try it when I finish The Ghost. The OP's cowl has ENDLESS possibilities!
I was kinda thinking about just building sides kinda like a british type sports car with no doors if that makes sense. Almost like a jeep tub only a little higher.
hi, glad im not the only one thinking this way. iv not seen any new builds of such.. but have seen pictures of some old cars.. and they look go to me. im def thinking 26ish-30ish roadster shape.. i originally was just gonna buy a fibergl*** bucket T body to build a project. always loved T';s.. but i am a crippled I shatter my left leg.. and have limited movement in it.. so eve if i bought a fibergl*** body i would have to modify the hell out of it for me.. iv been playing with wood since a kid. and been looking at a lot of wood boats for inspiration. im thinking red ceder, with white ceder accent strips like on the chitty chity bang bang car. looks cool. thinking maple or hickory frame, plywood skin, and then whatever paneling i like.. plywood floor, gl***ed for protection from the elements even tho it harldy rains here.. steel reinforments using simple 1x1 square tubing. probably wont be any less work than building metal body just different tool set and media to work with. but by building the body i can build it for my needs to make it easy for me to get in and out.. and by going by the roadster shape, i can make the doors or whatever mods i need.. so it will be a work as i go. I did find some old pictures of wood frames of buckets. i plan on using it for a design for the structure.. probably use a mixture of wood, gl***, and metal.. i know one thing it will be just as safe as the fibergl*** t body thats for damn sure.. i have no sheet metal experience.. so to me wood is a natural choice. been building longbows for last 10 years.. and have way more wood tools than metal.. band saw yes, english wheel no etc. welder yes, etc.. good luck on your project ( at least with wood working, everything else is gonna be a new experience for me )if i can help any way hit me up.. i plan on starting once my left hand heals.. i cut my finger in half last week. hah.. i do not recommend it. here is a link to dimensions of the bodys/frames might help you: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=438877&highlight=model+dimensions i may fail but at least i can say i tried. laughs. chris.
I've got a 1917 Willys open car cowl that "swoops" into where the doors go much like this one - great for a project like that. Steve
The most common "stud" mount windshield ***emblies are the Dodges, some with flat bottom frames, some curved, and the Buicks, all curved bottom frames. Your cowl appears from the photos above to be a Buick.
