I'm starting to get serious about ordering/buying parts for my 300 build and was discussing it with my great uncle (also a 56 f100 owner) who up and says I have a running 292 that you can have.

I've been reading on here about them for hours, found some ****** adapters and stuff, and found Mummerts Y Block website with parts. These are apparantly pretty expensive to rebuild, but I wouldn't be looking for a lot of performance as stock form has more than enough power and torque for me.

I have the following questions though:

Anyone ever fitted an Air coditioner up to one?

Are they gas hogs, or get decent mileage? (I'm going to put a T56 behind it)

Any good websites dedicated to parts for them besides Mummerts???

There's a whole list of good links on Tim McMaster's website. I'm pretty sure he's a member here. Check out the youtube videos as well. He has a ton of awesome info on y-blocks.

They make decent torque and a regular overhaul is no more expensive and any other motor. I get 18-19 MPG and run the hell out of it and I am sure you can detune one and possibly get more and with the transmission your talking about its very possible to get more MPG.
