Was just wondering if there was any later or earlier model units that would bolt up and interchange with mine? I'm having a hard time finding a master cylinder for my old car. Its all stock brakes. Even rebuild kits on ebay run around $20. $90 for a rebuilt unit with no core just seems a bit too high for my taste. Not even available at the local parts store. But I'll need one soon regardless. Mine has sat without fluid in it for a couple of years, so I dunno if it may be too pitted to even rebuild.
i dont know if your apart of the 52-56 ford social group here on the hamb or not but if not you should join!! you most likely find all the answers you need there....this is a dual master upgrade thread i found over there: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/group.php?do=discuss&group=&discussionid=15572
If you follow the instructions in the link above converting to the safer dual master will cost you under $50.I sent you an invitation to the 52-56 Ford social group, there is also another link complete with pictures of how to do a brake reline on a '54 and converting to self adjusting brakes with over the counter parts.Check this out: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/group.php?do=discuss&group=&discussionid=20141 The cool thing about doing this is you also end up with new brake hardware and adjusters dirt cheap as opposed to the original non adjustable hardware that is hard to find and pricey.
The part # is MC18000. Where are you looking? Sometimes the auto parts store computer dosen't go back far enough so they tell you they don't have it. Try to find it by the part #.
I interchanged the part number and ordered one at Advance for about $17 with the core. I need to run new lines and replace all the wheel cylinders anyway. Thanks for the help everyone. Definetly better than the stock piece at that ridiculous price.
