right dropped...anyhow a little more description as to specifics..Id like to transverse the spring on an originally parallel leaf axle.I saw one at a car showabout a decade ago.The guy made a plate that bolted to the 4 shackle bolt holes and used split bones from it..I was hoping to see more pics of something like that.
There is a guy/family in the Cl Elum Wa area that has/have a couple of wicked T buckets with that setup. I've got photos somewhere in the photo stash if i can find them. On those two you didn't notice that a parallel leaf axle had been used at first.
As far as I know there is no shortage of early Ford I beam axles, spindles, brakes, springs, perch bolts, wishbones, misc parts, or the information on how to install them; so why would someone want to go to the trouble of cobbling up a pick-up axle to use in their place.
Could be lots of reasons why...doesn't really matter! Something you might need to watch is that the truck axle doesn't have the "smile" (dip) in the middle so it might be a little tight on clearance for the U bolts of the transverse spring. Make sure you have a strong yet goodlooking connection between your axle and control arms and spring mounts. The hard part of this is making it look nice. Strong is easy.
There have been three threads in the last month about pick up axles. Yes they can be cut and welded safely. Yes the bolt pattern is early 5 x 51/2. No KH bent spokes will not fit without a spacer.Yes you can mount a transverse spring if you know what you are doing and a good welder.Look at my woodie album the race car has a 1056 Ford PU axle converted to transverse spring.
