Hey there cyberfriends. I am looking for some knowledge about my 37 Pontiac series 26. My 3 speed threw a gear through the bottom, and now I am in a search for a new tranny. I was wondering what car transmissions would be the same as the 37 Pontiac. To my knowledge just the 37 and 38 pontiac and olds shared this common trans. Does anyone know for sure and/or can anyone point me in a direction to find one of these? Thanks for the help.

Welcome to the insanity. Much to learn and share here. Sorry I cannot offer an answer to your gearbox question. But, hang in there, someone will. Theere MAY be a pre-war Pontiac forum here. Poke around and search.

Welcome. It 's same basic trans up to 56 for Pontiac, 5 bolt top plate. The main differance is the floor shifter which can be used on the newer trans.

So I will be able to use the same trans as the 1939 and later column shifted trans, but I will have to use my old 5 bolt top plate and shifter? If this is the case, this will save me a lot of searching for a 37 or 38 trans.

I was actually looking for a 37/38 trans for the shifter to convert my 41 Pontiac I had over to floor shift.
