  2. We are running a '49 flathead (with two piece truck bell housing) in the roadster with a NWC T5 and with the adaptor plate (about 1" thick) I still had to trim a bit off the input shaft. I think about 1/2" or more. If all mates up I'm guessing your'e on the right path...
    Post us up a pic....

As RuFFDawg said if you have the correct bell housing and adaptor you should be good to go. Pre 1949 Ford four speed transmission come in two styles, one has a removable bellhousing or hogs head. With that and a adapter plate allows you to bolt a chevy t5 trans, mine trans is a 1983 camaro/ firebird with the tilted or angle trans mount. You do need to cut about 1/4 inch off of the pilot bushing part of the input shaft. Chevy clutch disc, Ford clutch cover or pressure plate. Make a sleeve for the Ford throw out bearing and you are done.
    Good luck

Hey designs, you say make a sleeve for a ford throw out bearing. What do you mean and what does this do? I am installing a T5 behind my flathead this month. I have read hundreds of posts and no one really gives details, gloss right over critical info. I am using the Dwight bond adapter.

29 sportcoupe. To use the stock early Ford throw out bearing with Dwight's adapter, i made a sleeve or adapter out of pipe if I remember correctly. Semi press fit on the t5 front bearing/ throwout tube, put two set screws, 90 degrees apart, to lock on t5. Rest of tube or adapter is the size of a Ford transmission where the throw out bearing rides. Been on the road five years with no problems. If you need more info PM.
    Good luck

Still confused. I talked to Dwight Bond yesterday and he said I need an original "shaft" that slides over the S10 input shaft and used four bolts to mount to the front of his adapter. I took one off of a flathead trans and it is too small to go over the input shaft and too small for the throwout bearing to ride on. My trans is long, not the stubby one I see sometimes. I ***ume there is another one I need. any idea where to get one? I have read posts where guys make there own but I would prefer not reinventin

Here are some pictures of a T5 install I finished about a month ago. The motor came with a removable Bellhousing (Stamped Steel 49-50), the adapter is from Offenhauser #5173 it comes with a little bushing for the tip of the Input shaft for the Pilot bearing or Bushing, you can also cut off about 3/8" off the tip if needed. I made a press in bushing for the Throwout bearing to fit the input shaft collar or you can buy one already from Dan (540)850-0015. Sorry I thought I had better pics.

I am leary about making my own collar to go between the factory throwout bearing and the input shaft of the S10 since I have no idea how long or tight this thing should be. Does Dan sell the throwout bearing and collar needed or do I just need an original Flathead trans bolt on collar deally?

I think I found what I need on Fleabay, its from speedway. I did not see it in the catalog. They sell a throw out bearing and collar. Any idea if this is correct to use with the Dwight Bond adapter kit?

I tried to copy and paste the ad but was unable to.

Down loaded the directions and it says not for T5 install. Still looking.

Ok, I called speedway and they claim to have the collar that works. Is this the best route or should I get the factory collar that bolts to the Dwight Bond adapter plate? What have you guys done?

29sportcoupe at one time Dwight sold all of the pieces needed to complete the conversion. When I bought my adapter from Dwight he only sold the adapter. What you have said in your last two post have me confused. As I remember my build or conversion I bought Dwight's adapter which mounts directly to the early Ford four speed bellhousing. The transmission then bolts to the bellhousing, this can all be mocked up or bolted together outside of the car. I think that I drilled out the four bolt holes on the transmission to 1/2 inch. If your trans has the 26 or 27 spline input shaft, which mine did, I had a clutch disc made with the proper spline with the early Ford outer diameter. I used the stock Ford flywheel, clutch pressure plate and throw out bearing. The throw out bearing shaft of the t5 is the wrong diameter for the STOCK FORD throw out bearing, this is where the collar is needed and where my confusion start. The only four bolts hold the bearing retainer to the transmission, which is also where the trow out bearing rides in the stock t5 transmission. Because your early Ford bell housing the throw out bearing pivot and cross shaft all you need to do is make the Ford throw out bearing slide in and out on a shaft. That shaft or adapter needs to be attached to the transmission without causing interference to the throw out bearing. So if you can imagine a pipe that slips onto the t5 bearing retainer and allows the throwout bearing to slide in and out that is what I did. Semi tight press fit onto the trans, with the outer diameter for the stock Ford throwout bearing. I guess if you had a lathe you could weld a flange onto the adapter and bolt to the t5.
    Clear as mud?
