Ignore the negatives. People like to blow. I think you did very well. That body looks solid. Get it up on some wheels and it'll look a lot better.

most of the 27-30 Chryslers, and desotos had 3 hinges on the rear door. I notice your's only has 2. What is the engine number (same place as on your desoto)

    Greg, engine # CJ6609. Briggs body #390-3947

haha, I just found a Texaco service sticker on the A pillar, and part of a fruit crate that reads "Arizona Quality Melons" Thats goin on the wall.

EDIT: #CJ****x shows it to be a 1930. Please correct me if i'm wrong, but thats what AACA shows.

Very cool, I like it! The beginning of hot rod that has some cl***! :)

I like the fenders, too! Gonna run 'em?

  5. My book says "The Series CJ was a line of all-new, downsized models bearing the Chrysler name. This series was actually a 1930 1/2 series and was introduced in February of 1930." The engine number is fairly early, they began CJ1001 and ended CJ24494. Production is 20,748 for the 4-door sedan. There also were a roadster, touring, coupe and convertible coupe in the CJ line.

When it comes to parts, this book notes the CJ carried over to 1931 "with little change, except that the cowl lamps were now mounted on the suricingle and new special type spring shackles were introduced." ... what the hell is a suricingle?

Wheelbase is 109 inches, the same as DeSoto series K and Dodge DD, so you may have some options if finding the right grille and hood proves difficult. Some of the listings show 109.75 inches, some just 109 ('29 DeSoto K and the Plymouths have the extra 3/4 inch).

^^^^ a suricingle refers to the belt that goes around a horse to secure the saddle or pack. It can also refer to the belt or rope the retain a c***osk. Think the rope around Friar Tucks outer garment. Looks like ther is a stainless or cast piece that seperates the hood from the cowl, in the pic of the blue car below the cowl lights are attached to that tather than to the cowl sheet metal.

    The specs for the CJ are;
    wheelbase109, curb weight 2390/2695, tire size 5.00x19, wheel bolt pattern 5 x 4.5. valve location In Block, bore and stroke 3 1/8 x 4 1/4, disp 195.6, CR 5.20, HP 62 @ 3200

looks like it may be able to run on kerosene....

So going by the cowl lamps I'd swear that this is a '30. Same as the Red pic above. Note the hole above the beltline on the cowl.

I am going to do some measuring on the rear axle. Fingers crossed a Jeep Cherokee may fit nicely. Where could I find some front hubs? I am going to ***ume that the drums are rivited to the hubs like on my DeSoto.

Also, where is the best online site for this car?

  10. Too bad you can't sneak off to Hershey this weekend, I bet you'd find what you need there. I told Mark to have a look and if he sees anything maybe he can p*** on the seller's contact info -

In fact, somewhere up there he has a vintage Chrysler axle that's complete to the hubcaps, I'm not sure what year it is. I remember helping unload it a few years ago.

Or you could try swapping in something like an A100 or Econoline front axle that's still an I-beam and will look right but be a little easier to find parts for.

I'd say with the numbers it's pretty safe to conclude it's a '30. State won't know the difference when you do the MV51 anyways. No tag anywhere on the dash with a body serial number?

...here's mine when I got it....1930 - 3 hinge rear doors as mentioned with a 3" chop, bad frame, rotten wood, but a few interesting details like side cowl vents, 'arched' windows,

...and as it is now (er, planned)....

Cool find Joe! Glad you were able to work something out with the previous owner.
I'm not a 4 door guy, but i actually like the lines of it. It'll make a fun project and family hot rod!

Yes, it had hydraulic brakes all the way around. Another cool feature that I noticed today is that the quarter gl*** rolls down.

I have no idea what I am going to use for an engine. I'd love to drop another flat head six in there, a 265 done up with all the extras would be nice backed by a top loader of some sort.

The block that is in there now I was just gonna try and sell it for a few bucks. I'm sure someone out there could use it. Theres not alot there just block, motor mount plate, crank, pistons, flywheel, and bell housing.

    Great Find!

Judging from door handle placement, and the body lines, it looks like a 1929 Series 65 sedan. There were a few differences in 1930 that this car just doesn't have.

Man I thought I was persistent.....Congrats. Not everyone is lucky enough to find a 32 Ford. Just build it with a bunch of details and everyone will love it.
