I know these guys and the owner, Jon, is a great guy. They make their own kits, use all the same components the "biggies" use and can service it all. Worth a look. If you are in the West Coast of Florida / Tampa area, they are on the east side of town, off Falkenburg road / north of SR60. Gary http://www.nostalgicairparts.com/
I am a dealer for Old Air Products ( Hurricane Systems ). We have sold and installed several of their units. Much cheaper than Vintage Air ( I think there is an upcharge for the name ) and good quality with good customer service.
I've used two Vintage Air Systems, good results both times. Insulate at least the firewall and the floor. FWIW, any of the Gen II or newer vintage air systems are electric actuators, no vacuum required. I saw an add once in either Cl***ic Trucks, or Custom Cl***ic Trucks for a Heat, AC, Defrost unit that was packaged in a housing that looked like the Heat / Defrost unit that was optional on the AD trucks. I've got a '50 Jimmy 5 Window project, hence my interest. Naturally that was before I had the truck, now that I have said vehicle, I can't seem to find the add, or who makes it.
I put Vintage Heat & Air in my 56 Delivery I wish I would have done it years ago. I thought it wouldn't keep my Delivery cool enough because of the back being so open but it cools down the whole car. The heater kicks *** too, it will be the best thing you'll ever do when your cruising with your windows up on a HOT summer day
One thing I should have mentioned, as a general rule, get the biggest condenser and evaperator (head unit, unit, whatever you want to call it) that you can fit wherever you are trying to put it, more evaporator will have more immediate cooling capability (won't freeze as easily, or lack cooling) where the large condenser will allow the evaporator to keep cooling. Maybe someone has already mentioned that ('missed it if tey did), but it bears mention each time one of these threads comes up Of course the cab of an AD pickup truck isn't going to tax any of the systems mentioned, like my Model A Tudor sedan can (haven't plugged all the air leaks yet), or 56 Frame Dragger's Delivery. The better you can seal and insulate the cab, the better whatever system you put together will work. Yes, call me "captain obvious" for this post, but I would feel worse if the OP found out these things after he paid Cash (which is just as good as money ) for a system (or components, whichever).
