Hot Rod or slight Custom???

I've been wracking my brain trying to figure out which direction to go in. I have a 41 Chevy coupe (avatar pic and the first one shown below) and really love the taildragger look with WWW, skirts, lowered some and (in the future) a chopped top. But I also like the hot rod look with black wall tires and slight rubber rake, lowered also. What do you guys think? Below is my car, which is sort of a hot rod look (w/o the hot rod engine) and a couple of pictures of chopped taildraggers. Of course the custom would be a lot more money in the end which is somewhat of a factor.
Let me know which direction you would go in.

    Thanks
    Paul

I would go north. that's a nice looking car, I wouldn't touch it.

    Custom all the way.

  7. Paul,
Why not go with a chop and a California rake? Customs also came in slightly nose down as well as tail dragging.

Then let the viewer decide if it is a custom or a hot rod.

That'll keep you out of the box for awhile.

The only way that would look right as a Hot Rod is straight axle. g***er look with a big ole blower stickin' out the top
Hot Rods need to have an intimidation factor. closed up cars cannot intimidate. (well maybe they can)
the coupe will always be a good candidate for customizing, and if you want a hot rod, then put a big HP motor in it. and have the best of both worlds.

Total Kustom , wide whites, lowered, with some subtle kustom touches would look killer.that rides has the body style for a Kustom

  11. My vote is for the Kustom with that body style. That green taildrager in your thumbnails is dead on in my book.

  12. You can't lose either way...Stunning car! I'd do slight chop, Big N' Littles, Nose down, Louvered Hood, and a Mild dechrome and Lakes Plugs (Cut-outs Exaggerated_ in the Front Wheel Wells......Then, change it up and build it Full Custom in 10 years when you've had fun with it instead of buying a different car.......Centurion9

I'll have to admitt your car looks mighty fine just the way it sits, so I guess it's just up to you to figure out what your personel taste for the car is. But since you asked I would go for the Custom, tail-dragger look, you know wide whites, low in the back and maybe some single bar flippers. Can't get much better than that!!!!!!IMHO

don't ask me, I sold the 41 chevy years ago because I couldn't figure out how to build it. I got a 55 instead, they're easy for someone like me who has no imagination

Mrconcdid had the best idea! Bags'll give you options. There was a slow transit in the late50s/early60s from customs dragging tail to subtly front raked. Many of the body mods remained similar or the same and even crossed into the rod side of the spectrum. Pick & choose carefully on the mods that are more static in nature [remember, less can be more], straddle two adjacent eras perhaps but probably not three, make it yours, change the stance at your whim, and feel free to give anyone who gets pissy a big round of Phfffffffft!!

Late 40s styled custom. Speedboat stance, wide whites, skirts, tasteful shave..
Then put a hot reliable motor underneath and drive the living hell out of it!!
