Basically building ANY street motor is all about cylinder pressure vs octane. There are two ways to arrive at the same dynamic compression ratio for a given amount of duration. Narrower lda and lower mechanical compression ratio, or wider lda and higher mechanical compression ratio. The narrow lda approach (typlified by Isky) favours bottom/mid range torque production at some expense to idle/part throttle manifold vacuum and fuel economy, and the wide lda approach (typlified by Crane) favours idle/part throttle manifold vacuum and fuel economy, and gives up some mid-range torque for a power band that hangs on a little longer as rpm goes up. Keep in mind, I am talking about cams with more or less the same intake duration, which in this application should be in the area of 210-215 at .050, so "hangs on a little longer as rpm goes up" is relative here.

I scored the 68 460 with the c8ve heads. I have Hedman hedders, a Holley 750 vac. secondaries, a new timing chain and a gasket set. I figure on using the heads from the 68 and the bottom end from the 77, it is a good running, low mileage engine. What head work would you reccommend and what cam?

Find some leaded fuel to use with them c8ve heads. You did of course get a chain set you can dial in the cam, you decide on. The exaust ports can use help. I hear 94 and up EFI heads are pretty good but don't know about a carb intake for them. I repowered my 93 F-250 w/a new '96 460 I've been sitting on for 10 years or so, can't believe how much stronger it is over the 93 mill. Gibson chrome headers, 3" single exhaust no cat or air pump 4.11 w/ a E4OD. It books real good w/big ass camper on back, gets 8.5 mpg. My phord buddy claims it due to the good efi heads.

Definately not looking to go EFI at this point. I have had a few opinions as to what machine work to do to the heads, just taking a consensus to get the best I can for this thing.
