The big swap meet in my area is this weekend, and I will be on the hunt for disc brakes. I have a 65 c10 with stock drums that I am looking to up grade. I know there are kits out there that I can buy and have no issues, but this is the hamb and I would like to find what I can at the meet if possible. The hubs I have are already set up with the roller style bearings and I want to stick with a six lug rotor. My question is, are there any specific years I should look for when I'm out there, to gain the best stopping power for my used buck?
71-2 chevy truck and the best way to do this is to swap the complete front x member out as well as the steering box and linkages, the only problems incurred is if it's power steering you will have to make spacers between the box and the frame, i use a 1/2 inch nut as a spacer with the outside rounded to look better and you have to drill 1 hole in the frame for the box to mount from what i remember, and on the power you have to shorten the column shaft. if a manual box is used just take the pitman arm from the linkages and swap linkages. also on the steering column if the power is used, if you can find a mid 70's gm van tilt column you can just collapse the intermediate shaft to make it fit as well as have a tilt column. as far as the 6 lug deal, the 71-2 truck is a 5 lug i guess you could have the rotors redrilled, but if using the stock wheels they wont fit over the disc brake rotors.my out was to use the front and rear from the 71-2 and convert to a 5 lug all around and the 71-2 rearend is a little narrower allowing for a wider wheel under the truck. hope this helps........
Thanks for the advice. I won't be running stock wheels, so that's not a concern. Currently I am running manual steering, but power is also in the works. If I were going to swap rearends, I would like to find something posi. I guess I still have another day or two to figure it all out.
