Chino held it's annual war bird air show. All weekend long these planes came buzzing over my roof top. So here are a few pics. It's nice living a mile from the airport that flies these birds.

I was there on saturday, what a show!!

So many old warbirds , it was amazing.

If you look under the bomber pics post I posted a bunch of pics from the show, inc. some cars and a B-17 that we got to tour and meet the co-pilot.

Favorite part was a Corsair chasing a Zero, The only remaining Zero with its original engine. That was cool.

    check out the pics...

  10. I was at Thunderrocket's Sat looking at planes and
drooling over his Swift thinking what cool B&W pictures I
    can get with the Commander.

Now this, great shot of the P-38.

It was the coolest thing to hear those piston powered aircraft all day saturday and sunday. I had to leave 3/4 of the way through the show. I brought my 5 year old son with me and after a few hours in the 100 degree heat, he was turning bright red.

On a nother note, a few months ago in Az, I shot a guys car in front of some vintage aircraft. here are a few Snaps.

  13. Those are some great pictures, thanks.

If you make it to the UK, you've gotta go to the Imperial War Museum at Duxford. It's about an hour north of London & is the largest museum outside of the USAF museum at WPAFB. They restore every airplane to airworthy condition & then fly most of them! They've got the only flying B17 outside the US, they had the only flying ME109 with original engine (before the crashed it a few years ago - it's currently being rebuilt). But the coolest thing is it's a working restoration shop, so you wander through as they guys are rebuilding these monsters...RR Merlins stacked like cordword, nearly every famous & most not-so-famous WWII aircraft & a relatively new American complex whose centerpiece is a B52!

    Here's their website:

    Cool,
Gotta love warbirds, I live about 10 miles from the airport they run out of locally (complete with surrounding whingers, boo hoo there is a noisy airport near where I bought my house it should be stopped !!!, never mind you bought your new house near an existing noise source....dumbarse) so see a fair bit but not often anything that interesting, they have a DC3, Catalina and a bunch of Harvards along with appearances from Mustang, Typhoon (i think) and some other odds and ends, one of the guys in our anti Natal group works outr there doing restoration he offered to get our club in for a visit, I reckon I better take him up on it.

Not an airshow per se, but BETTER than an airshow in a lot of ways... taking an actual RIDE on a B-17 or B-25... to find out their tour schedule, search up Collings Foundation (I have a feeling it's collingsfoundation.org). Not cheap, it's at least $350 for a ride, BUT way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way WAY worth doing one time in your life!!!!!!!

No it's not. Thier B-17 is the Nine O Nine, and it's olive drab. Sentimental Journey is CAF.

You can't see the other side of that DC-3, but if the nose art is accurate, it's no ordinary DC-3, that's an AC-47 Spooky!! I just noticed that! The 4th SOS was reactivated to fly the AC-130U back in the early-mid '90s - that's their nose-art!

I actually got to take a ride in Sentimental Journey, when it was on tour. I paired up with an old timer who was a top turret gunner. You could see the memories flash through this guys mind as we lumbered along. Can't beat the sound of those radial engines. He sat in the nose for landing, and I sat behind him. What a cool site to see. He gave the pilot in training a B- on the landing, as he and his crew used to do during the war. I could do that every day of my life, as long as people weren't shooting at me!

I was in London several weeks ago, and most of the planes at Duxford weren't available to see due to renovations. Bummer. May a couple days off in London on June 6-8, have to check the website.

    Oops, you're right.

That jewel is flown by the COMMEMORATIVE Air Force, since the word Confederate apparently gets panties into wads.

I worked for a guy(Mac McClain) in the mid 70's that raced a P51 and a T-6. Stupid me passed up several opportunites to fly in the P51. There was a jump seat installed behind the pilots seat in the space that once held radio equipment. Being 6'3" and trying to cram myself in the small space plus him telling me about how most P51 crashes occuring on take off sort of freaked me out. He said the engines produced so much torque it was hard to keep them level on take off and watching him proved it. He buzzed me once with the P51 when I was checking the runway lights riding a Honda 70. I couldn't hear him coming from behind me at 400 knots but when that sucker got over me it was nothing but thunder. Just about crashed the Honda and had to check the shorts when I got back to the hanger.

Django, you know your shit about Warbirds. Gotta hand it to you. The B-32 Bomber's escape hatch is being fitted for a new skin as we speak. I'll post pics of the install as soon as I can. Larry

I live one mile from the Reading, PA airport and the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum (MAAM). They hold a WWII weekend every year. My house will get strafed by Zeros again June 4-5. I can't wait!

In addition to aircraft flying all weekend, they have re-enactors camping out from all armies. My favorite ground area is the "motor-pool" tent where they tear apart and rebuild a few old Harleys and Indians.

The "homefront" section has live old-time radio broadcasts, swing bands, and lots of cars. But, the aircraft are really the stars of the show, for me.

I'm in Everett Wa at the end of the paine field runway. There's an outfit here that has an origonal Me262 jet fighter that they fly every so often. It's painted in the origonal paint scheme ans is a trip to see flyover. I here they'r making repops with lear engines in the pods.

  27. You lucky dog !! Thats insane....

I had to travel to the UK and the Imperial War Museum/RAF Museum to see these warbirds.

Well 2007 is the plan to go up in Aluminium Overcast B17 for a flight - then go to Tulsa for the digging up of that buried 57 Plym.

Nice pix, thanx for sharing !!

  28. Wow. Cool pix. I was just thinking yesterday the only cool thing about living in Michigan is that as I was cooking dinner, there was this familiar drone outside. I set the spatula on the counter and ran out on the patio to see the YAF Yankee Lady B17 go over head. Usually, it's a little too far west but yesterday, right over. Makes the 9 months of shitty weather worth it.:D

It's really kinda cool that most nice days I get to see it at least once a day. The sound alone is awe inspiring, I couldn't imagine being on the recieving end of a couple hundered of them at a time.

    Thanks for sharing.

    Jay

  29. All I can say is if you like warbirds go to Duxford, nothing like standing at the edge of the grass field and having a P-47 "Jug" come at you on the deck (and I mean LOW) WFO and screaming. Same with a Spitfire too! Put chills down your spine. Great pics, thanks for sharing.....

  30. About warbirds..., Don't get me started...!:D

But that Douglas A-1 SkyRaider sounds like a top fueler when it's idling on the ramp...!!!!!!
