I have a stock '62 C10 truck and I'm looking for disc brake kit, all the suppliers have them for '63-'66, but can't locate '60-'62 version (torsion bar front suspension). Help appreciated.

I'm going to need to drive this through LA soon and having old drums surrounded by ABS-crazed drivers is terrifying...

  2. Did you try Master Power Brakes or maybe Brothers Truck?

I have a 61 c-10 with torsion. I picked up a front suspention from a 73up truck, have not done this yet but this is what i am told. Use the new style balljoints on the early arms and simply hang the later spindles and disks.

Or you can unbolt the crossmember and install the complete late model susp. and eliminate the torsions. I was told you need to drill 2 holes.

Let me know which way you go, Mike.

That should help a bit. C10s are a bit easier to convert to front discs. If you have 1" rear WCs use the 75mm calipers.

Larger trucks such as 2500 come with 1-1/8" rear wheel cylinders which will need to be changed out to smaller 1" rear WCs. Luckily '68 Fleetwoods have the needed WC.

I'm not to fond of the aftermarket kits that are out there for the 60-72 trucks. A lot of them are SNAFU from the get go, wrong MC sizes and they often don't adress the larger 20/30 trucks rear wheel cylinders.

    In the middle of doing '84 2500 8 lug discs onto a '70 GMC 2500 8 lug.
FWIW the stock 16.5" riveted wheels clear the new disc brakes.

Did this to my old 62, it did only require that two holes drilled. You could also weld it easy enough. Best thing I ever did to that old truck. Power steering, disk brakes, coil springs, newer suspension..... all win win!

Thanks for responses, i will try Brothers kit. I really like the torsion suspension ride on this truck (compared to my old 66 c10), so i'm not eager to replace the entire front suspension.

Check on the kit that CPP sells. I think they were a little less expensive than everyone else when I was looking at the disc brake kits for my 62.

I like the torsion bar setup also. I used McGaughy's dropped spindles and got the rest from the boneyard for my 1960 Apache. Sets right and drives great.
