I found these in my dad's old shop.....he was a real packrat, never threw anything away. Maybe you guys can help me figure out what these things were used for.

First up....some weird pliers. About 16" long, made of steel with kinda sharp teeth. I posted a pic of these on garage journal with no luck....

Next is some kind of welder electrode/ torch thingy. appears to have br*** tips?

Last is a solid steel ball threaded onto a 3/8 rod, with a tube that slides over it. This may not be a tool, but WTF is it? I'm thinking about making a shaping hammer out of it.....

Thanks in advance for your input. If anyone can figure it out, it's gotta be the HAMB!!!

The second tool is a Carbon Arc Torch. These are used in conjunction with an Arc welder to provide heat. The two carbon rods are adjusted to provide an arc to heat just like you would heat with a gas torch.

Second tool looks like a carbon arc cutter.

the way the plier's teeth are offset resembles the "set" given to saw teeth to create a kerf and prevent drag on the saw blade. The bolted on blade looks to get both blades in line, also making it saw-like. Seems like it would only be able to cut thru round , thin wall, fairly soft stuff though. How would it do grabbing radiator hose to twist before removing?

  7. Could the last be an exhaust pipe expander, slide hammer deal ?

It's a muffler pipe cutting tool

  11. The first one is a tool to show your daughters date:p,the last one looks like a tool that a cabinet installer I once worked with used. He would load a spiral nail in the end and whack the end with the weighted rod....Yup, beat the living hell out of the cabinets. I kept on going with my 3 inch screws. Funny, he didn`t last that long...

My first thought for the pliers was that they were radiator hose pliers but they may indeed be pipe/tube cutters.

The second is as a couple of guys said a carbon arc torch. Used for welding. I have a gypo 110 version that I bought at Wards in the 70's. You put two electrodes in the holders in the torch to get the arc.

The last one I have no idea but it was probably put together for a single purpose.

Thanks for the positive ID on this....I may try to figure out how to use it.

The pliers are the real puzzler for me. I don't think they are cutters....maybe for holding or turning a certain object? I dunno.....

First one might be the mother of all spin-on oil filter removal tools?

The tube and rod is a carpenter's "pea-shooter". Drop the tube down in a corner or any difficult to reach spot, slide a framing nail down the tube, insert the rod and drive the nail. I've still got one in my old framing box.

OK, that makes sense, Thanks! The HAMB rocks!

    That only leaves the pliers......
