    I've been helping a friend with a 55 packard. he's on his 3rd transmission. he doesn't want another Packard ultramatic trans. any thoughts on engine to trans adapters?? nope, Benson doesn't make one for the 352V8 engine, just the strait eight. what other trans adapters are there??
    He has a 55 parts car with a 3 speed overdrive set up, but his wife can't drive a stick:(

    Hey, chubbie;

    You'll have to go to the packard club. & there may be two - was anyways, & they weren't friendly w/each other. Anyways, it's one of the few mods that the packard guys allow w/o points drop in judging. & from what I've heard, it's, uhmm, odd...does work, but odd. They know the ultramatic is fine for the straight 8, seriously bites large for the v/8. If you can't find it, ask. I'm sure they'll be glad to help. The only guy I knew in that club has passed on, so that's no help. & he's the reason I know this. Sorry I can't help more. I do know a guy that can do adapters, but getting a hold of him, much less, anything out of him, borders on the other side of impossible.

    Marcus...

  4. the stick shift Packards are rare but they are out there, I ran a 4 speed hydro behind a 374 Packard. the most common swap used to be torqueflites. it would be worth while to fit an overdrive like 700r.

  5. Go to the AACA forums and hit the Packard board there. But yes, there should be an adapter for the 727, I seem to remember you had to cut the bell off the 727 trans to make it work.
