Hi all and thanks in advance for having me. Loved the sticky at the beginning of this thread and I'm happy to belong to a place where teaching comes before preaching, and I've got a lot to learn! I've been a vintage guy all my life and always been a hot rodder. Started with old Vespa and Lambretta scooters when I was 15, which I realize sounds odd, but I had a 50cc Vespa scooter that would top out at 100mph. Moved on to old Triumph and BSA bikes. Now at age 37 with a wife and three kids, it's time to have a more family inclusive hobby. I even put seatbelts in the back of my Shoebox for the kiddies. The plan for my 51 changes daily, but over all, I love the look as is. The immediate plan is to put the front grille back to original, and if any of you can help with the parts to do so, I'm buying. I'll be posting in the cl***ified section also... Other than some proper drop spindles and disc brakes in the front, probably go with a 302 and 4 speed trans. Check with me tomorrow and it'll be a 454 g***er, LOL! Anyway, I'm a good, honest guy who is looking forward to learning all I can and hopefully soak up some of the wealth of knowledge here. While this may be my first venture into the vintage car community, I ***ure you all that the "Hot Rod" mentality and sense of tradition runs deeply in me. Thanks for the forum, Ian
My first plan in the model A was to keep enough room to put a back seat for the kids even if it's chopped, channeled and has a small rear kickup. Family comes first! Welcome aboard neighbour!
Welcome to the insanity. Much to learn and share here. Hmm, Bowmanville, eh? Back in my Boston days, I raced Trans-Am and ran Mosport a few times. Say "Hello" to Mo Carter...if he's still around. Please, keep us updated on the family hauler with words and photos.
