Hello out there, ii have been working on a 1940 chev truck for the past 2 years and finally have it done and drove it all summer. But now the year is comming to a end i have a few bugs to work out. i am really looking into putting power steering in it and was wondering what some people were using for front ends. leave us some ideas thanks,

I dont know what setup you are working with, i.e. stock, or aftermarket front suspension. But a common swap is to go with a mustang II front suspension and rack. Fits very well on those fat fendered trucks. I have a '38 Chevy pickup stashed away to start after my model A coupe and someone put that front end under it before I got it.

There are a couple of kits out for later I beam axle Chevy trucks that might work but I'd look into installing a power steering box for cross steering if you retain the axle and leaf springs. Set it up pretty much the same way that they do the Vega box cross steering on early Fords. You would have to build a new tire rod or steering arm to take the drag link on the right side but it shouldn't be an impossible task.

Have any buddies who are into older Jeeps? Like putting later V8 engines in old CJ's or flat hoods? One of the common mods on those is installing a power steering box with cross steering but they hang the box out front of the axle. They can probably give you some pointers.
