    Hi
I been reading about suspension alternatives for an f1 truck.
I know about the Jag and Crown Vic.I was just wandering if a 2000 cougar xr7 ifs is similar than the Jag or Crown Vic.
Also will a 92-97 Lincoln Town Car fit under the same f1???
We are looking at these suspension alternatives because we have some of these cars close by and we could get them for cheap.
This is for a buddy that got a 52.And has nothing but the frame and shell
    Thanks

Nope it's FWD and has no frame.

On the Lincoln they have around a 118 inch wheel base. The engine and trans would be a good donor. It's basically the same underneath as the crown vic.

The 1988–2002 Lincoln Continental was built on the Ford D186 platform, which is shared with the Taurus, Sable, and Windstar minivan, and is a FWD unibody platform.

    So, in other words, no.

Town Car, Grand Marquis, and Crown Victoria (as well as the somewhat rare Marauder) are all the same ch***is, with changes from year to year. Minor engine changes, mostly exhaust, intake, and minor computer changes.

The thunderbird and cougar were an MN12 ch***is until 1996. The 1999 and up cougar (I believe there was a brief gap) is a thoroughly modern european design.

Continentals were indeed front wheel drive unibody cars as well.

I believe the changeover date for Panther Ch***is (town car, crown vic, grand marquis) front suspension was 2003. 92-02 were very similar, 03 has very few interchangeable parts from earlier models. It remained fairly similar up front until the factory shut down last month.

It shouldn't matter for you, but Town Cars and P70 VIN number Crown Victorias had a 4 inch (?) longer wheelbase than regular grand marquis and crown victorias. This did not affect the front suspension. Also, police(p71 vin) and I believe Town Cars came with stiffer springs and sway bars.

As much as Ive been telling my buddy that We need to use a Jaguar ifs,
He insists on using one of these two.
I will tell him that the cougar is a no no.
He wants to put a 460 Ford Big Block and he dont seem to understand that it needs a beefier suspension and other mods to make it work.
I told him I would ask.
A crown Vic would be ideal too but...
Keep in mind that we live 100 miles from a good junk yard.
Another question is:will the 1992 lincoln town car be able to stand a big block and have good suspension???
this is the car I am talking about.
    Thanks for all your responses

Those Lincolns have factory air ride. You'll be dragging the door handles around every corner....But you could change them to P71(cop car) springs pretty easy I would think.

Town Cars only have air suspension on the rear . They make a direct replacement coil spring conversion for the rear also . - Mayor

Check over at FTE and you'll find lot of information about IFS options for F1's and F100's. My '52 F1 has a front clip from a GM G Body (Monte Carlo/Regal/Cutl***) that was in the truck when I bought it. I'm satisfied with it now, but I did have to go through quite a bit of time and expense to get the ride and ride height the way I wanted it.

If I had it to do over again, I'd probably just do an aftermarket Mustang II IFS and be done with it. What seems to be cheap on the front side rarely turns out to be cheap in the end.

That being said, if I was determined to do a junkyard IFS swap, I would probably go with the Jag. The guys that have done it swear by it.

with all due respect. Sound like a case of the "knows better".

I see these questions a lot on the truck forums. "Can I put my (insert cl***ic truck here) on the frame from a (insert odd late model sedan here)?

I would impress on your friend that there are no "easy ways" to update a cl***ic car.

How many custom cars have they build in the past? Are they good at mig and tig? Do they have all the metal working tools and space needed. If yes then they might have a chance at succeding.

But from the question about putting a F1 on a front wheel drive ch***is seems to show a complete lack of understanding.

Hey guys I was doing the part by asking around,I have told him the best choices out there.
    I suggested:
    1ST:dropped axle
    2ND:Crown Vic
    3RD:Jag

He dont seem to get it.
I promised him I would ask this board,but...
I told him that if he really wants to go a different route well he has to seek a pro.
    Thanks for the help tho.
