We still race there on the 1st and 3rd Sundays Feb - Dec. Schedule here: http://www.amrca.com/results/2011/calendarsg3.php .
What's cool is in 1963 (year we came home from England) my dad started taking me to a hobby shop and toy store in Cedar Rapids Ia. (we lived there then) called "Toy Fair", it was off 1st. Ave. as I remember. The owner had a collection of these cars and I remember something very simillar to this one. I've tried to collect that era and have had some success, but this brings it all home!!!!
Really cool find.. My wife is into the old metal toy trucks.. and p***es on any of them that have been "restored". She would rather have them in their original condition, and un-altered.
Thought you'all might like to see the place that the "Lil" Hot Rod takes. If ya notice below it, on the next shelf is a "Boy Scout" project that my dad did.
Nice find !! I will reinforce previous posters. This is a Fuji Midgetee car, manufactured in Japan and not sold in the US. Fuji manufactured engines used in model airplanes in several sizes as well as these cars. These cars were brought back to this country mostly by GIs. The tires on your car may read Star. These Fuji cars were originally made of wood and gradually evolved into cars like yours, two piece cast body with the radius rods, exhaust, etc. These came with a couple of different engine sizes, and were primarily ran as fun cars rather than serious competion entries. They do come up on ebay and other sites, swap meets, etc. Value is somewhat dependent on someone recognizing the car. Most folks are more familiar with O&R, Thimbledrome, and McCoy cars from that era..Again, nice find!
ok, how dose this work? dose it just go in a slot track? or is it a strait running type car.. so you would drag race with your friend down the road.. and it would stop when it ran out of fuel.. im ***uming its 2 stroke. or are there R/C stuff in it and can be control with a remote? i use to be into rc airplanes.. not so much these days have all my stuf still tho. ( gonna get back into it some day hahah ) cool car none the less.. chris.
It's a tether car. It is tethered to a cable and runs in a circle. Pretty sure it was built long before there was such a thing as "RC".
