Just went camping this past weekend and was thinking to myself I would like an old camper done period correct, and now this thread resurfaces.... Coincidence, I think not!
brian, that evening shot with the lights glowing inside just sets the tone. looks like a great place to be.
What a great set up, that's so ideal! How many Spartans do you have Brian? That one looks different then the one you posted on the first page. (it looks like an earlier one)
Good eye. Yes, they're not the same trailer. The one in front of the Shell station is our "old" '48, the one on the paved drive is our "new" '46. Sold the '48 to finance the build of the '46. We just found another one, unkown year, while on vacation that's free for the taking, if I decided I need another project. I'd be excited about it if I didn't have the Diamond T project, the '76 GMC one ton dually project, the '53 Tini Home project, and all the maintance stuff to catch up with on the other cars, and around the house. So many trailers, so little time...
Does anybody here have a picture of pat Ganhal's Chevrolet 3100 with a camper shell and pinstriping by Roth or von Dutch, I can't remember which but I remember Pat Ganhal's article about his own cars in an early edition of the now long gone Rod and Custom UK, I take this to be in the late 1970's.
I only just saw this thread, cool! As an aspirant "caravaner" I look forward to checking out all 30 pages. Anyone interested in vintage caravans might like to click on the below link: http://vintagecaravanmagazine.com.au/
Haha, thanks! They're not really toys if you use them, right? I just now sealed the deal on Spartan Manor #3 for us, this '47. All I have to do now is go and get it.
WHOA! That thing is HUGE, man! Those later ones are WAAAAYYY cool in a George Jetson, mid century modern way. Nice trailer. Is the interior intact? Brian
A buddy of mine bought this one. How I ronic finding it posted here. I may try to get some current pices of it.
Here is our 1968 Serro Scotty Sportsman camper. My wife and I restored it this summer. I was in the process of cleaning and painting the tongue when I took this picture. I have the original wheels and hubcaps to go on it for next summer. It was in pretty rough shape when we started. I made it the best we could on a budget and went out camping with it as soon as we finished. It was a blast!
Thanks for the compliment! That first morning you wake up in it once its finished is sooo rewarding! Would like to get one more trip in it this year, but it may have to go into storage until spring.... Jon
That was the first camper I had when I graduated from a tent. Thanks for bringing the memories back from the dusty and cobwebbed area of my memory! I really appreciate it!
