    Hi,
i need the measurement of the front mounts for a Flathead(v8) in a Model A frame.

I have Mike Bishops book , but the measurement in there seems wrong??
I have the first edition and can remember there was something ?!?!?

    Maybe Mike can answer that....

Measurement from the radiator hole to middle of motor mount hole would be good.

The book says 3" to the front of motor mount (3x2 tube), so add 1.5".
    Makes 4.5" hole to hole.

    Any help out there?
    Thanks
    Michael

how do you have the rear mounted?

if the rear mount is in...just measure front off that to match the motor...if not...then just check clearances of everything..firewall and whatnot...and just measure to find where they go...

i could go measure mine...but id hate for you to go by the measurement and then have a firewall clearance issue of 1/2 inch or something that could have been worked out ahead of time

    good luck

    Hi Zach,

that would be too easy :)

I'll use a T-5 so no rear mount yet.
The body is in pieces , so i can't put it on .

This is why i could use a measurement.
    Thanks

    Hi Mickey
For what its worth, I am putting an 8BA in a Model A frame. Plan on using an electric fan and stock firewall. As such, when I mocked it up I found that 6" to 6 1/4" will work out okay from the radiator mount hole center to the motor mount's hole center. If your using a stock fan it will require another inch or so and the firewall will have to be dished. Hope this helps. Bill

    Hi Bill,
    sounds better .......

I want to use a fan on generator system (36-39 i think??))
or a dummy like that, but again don't have it yet.
    will work with 6" too??
    Thanks

I did a post on dimensions of flathead front hardware a while back. I just bumped it back to top of list in case it has info you need, since I don't know how to link it here. If you need other numbers, let me know--I might have the pieces handy to measure.
I think what you want to do on your ch***is is put together the front stuff on your engine and place engine so fan clearance is just adequate, since you don't have any center structure to dictate position yet. Room is tight, so you want engine as close to rad as practical. Sounds like you are using an early setup, which can be considerably shorter than 8BA.

    Hi Bruce,
    I'll check it out.

I have both 8BA and 59AB.I wanted to use early fan(with fan bolted to gen pulley) cause it seems to be shorter than 8BA but don't have the parts. So I wanted the easy way out and
just follow Mike Bishops book instructions, but then..........

    Thanks

    Hi,
mocked everything up and found out that 4.5 inch is ok if you use gen. mounted fanon a 59AB.You won't have to cut the firewall with breather and fuel pump(it's tight). For 8BA(fan) in stock 28-29 Model A you need 6 to 6.5 inch and could not use stock fuel pump. So the numbers in Mikes book are ok.
But as he suggestet in another threat, mock it all up and measure.
    Thanks
    Michael
