Question for all you F1 gurus out there. I picked up a 1951 F3 longbed on the cheap to get the running flatty. I also grabbed the shock mounts for my '40 truck project. Whats left is a rolling shell. My question is will the fenders on the F3 interchange with the F1. Everything looks pretty close with the exception of the bed. Would I be better off selling it off as a roller or parting it out for the sheetmetal. I have been told that the 51 steering boxes are popular as well. Any truth to this?

    Thanks for your feedback.

As I recall the fenders have a larger wheel opening than a F-1. Yep steering box is a good item also.Probably worth more compleat.

Thanks for the help. Follow up question...

The truck is complete with the exception of motor, radiator, front shock mounts. What would you say this truck is worth as it sits? I know the F3's are less popular.

The F-2/3 rear fenders not only have larger wheel openings, they're narrower than the F-1 because the larger truck's boxes are wider.

F-3 without an engine aren't worth a whole lot because of their size. If the sheet metal is solid the cab, cab parts, hood and grill will fit all models. The box, if again in good shape, could be worth a few bucks to a person looking for an 8 foot Express box. No one reproduces them, unlike the F-1 box. If you can find someone looking for F-3 parts like brakes and transmission then you might be able to sell them for a few bucks but don't expect to get too much for F-3 specific parts. You can list them on the Ford Truck Enthusiasts' site, there is probably some one there who could use the parts.

BTW, it the F-3 has the stock two piece wheels they're junk no matter how nice they are. The are referred to as Widow Makers and no reputable tire shop will touch them.

The steering box is the same for F-1 through F-3 and are very popular with street rodders.

Recently saw a steering box sell for $240 or so on ebay... The F1 through F3 use the same box, the F4 through F6 use a bigger one.

yep, everything stated is true! i found out the hard way on the rear fenders. i bought a pair at carlisle for mine a couple years ago, opening is the same one the rears, but they are narrower because of the wider box, rats  sold them for a loss! live n learn i guess!!
