Been trying to sell my 63 Studebaker wagon as well as a 59 Rambler.. Been over a year now and never got many bits till today.. Was offered a 49 Dodge pick up.. Both the rambler and stude had major rust damage so trading it off for this was a no brainier.. I noticed some soft spots in the frame of the truck and the front end looks wore out so thinking of just doing a frame swap.. Not looking to restore this but make a shop truck out of it..any good link or build for these trucks would be a great help..

It looks reasonably solid, I saw one years ago on a complete G body ch***is, looked really slick, I even dragged home an old pilot house to do the project, but I never seemed to find the time to get started on it so I traded it off....I think it might be harder to find a usable G body ch***is than to find the truck these days lol! Or you could just use another truck ch***is and keep it stock looking for a shop truck !

If you want to stay mopar find yourself a Dakota 2wd and swap away.

    Nice looking '48!

The body looks pretty good, where is the frame soft? Typically the cab rusts out long before the frame will on these trucks. Maybe its a Canada thing I don't know about.

As Dan mentioned, the frame swaps on these trucks have been done a few times here or over on the Pilot house board he linked too. Dakota's make a pretty good donor, the wheelbase is only 3" longer which can come out of the frame right behind the cab. The track width is a little wider, but its correctable with deeper offset rims, its not much. Plus with a Dakota swap it stays mopar.

    Good luck with the project!

would love to see pics of these with both S10 and Dakota frame swaps.. Im worried about track width..Don`t like the wheels out too far.I measure up it today and track width seems to be 57 inch. My ranger is both the same in wheel base as well as track width.. Going to check out that site now see what i can find out..

Been hunting around looking at pictures and this one is as close as i can come to what my plan is.. The wheel wells in these trucks needs a tall tire.So need to find a tall 16 inch radial that will give me the look Im after.

That should be easy if you use a Dakota frame. They came with 16''.
    Dakota track width is 60-61"
