Try not to ruin the roof somebody will want it. If you are going to do it they look better with roadster windshield stantions than with the sedan windshield cut down. Do a search for A pheatons to find some pics of how a tub should look and study them real hard before you ever give that ****** a whack. it will help you figure out the best way to approach it.
Yea I like the Duval look but they are proud of them ,But I can build one myself mite not be as nice but I can get by. Thanks
Sounds like a dumb idea but hey it's your car. I would be interested in the roof if it is half way decent.
Just looked at Jimmy's project ,I'am really liking it, as for as the roof it wasn't much anyway but someone already claimed it.
X2. The only good that will come come of it is there will be one less Tudor in this world so mine will be worth more.
It takes a good body man and a lot of work to make it look right. most of the time the result looks terrible. The doors are wide enough to set a can of Coke on due to the window being in there. Some people have spent the time and money to narrow them so they looked good. The cowl section is too straight and lacks the flowing lines of a real open car. Again with enough time and money they can be made to look acceptable. Maybe graft on the cowl from an open car? I would strongly suggest you find one you like by going to rod runs. If you can't find one you like, don't start cutting on yours. Charlie Stephens
In '93 Joe Kress started a build called "Project '28" in american rodder. It was a '28 tudor built hiboy style on a '32 frame. Later on he decided to redo the body as a tudor tub. The results where amazing. it impressed me to the point of building a roadster p/u out of a '29 tudor. It fooled a lot of people. As Charlie said it takes a lot of work to get the right look. You can figure on working almost every panel in the body. Wish I had a dollar for every one I've seen where people have given up on a project like this. One last thought ... it takes more than just cuttin' the top off!!! Ron
It can be done and look right. The following link is to a picture Denise took of a friends 30 with the roof wacked off. It was also shortened about 8" behind the doors. As you can see it looks good. Lots of work to make them look right as has ben mentioned. http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y1... Open House/?action=view¤t=DSC06782.jpg We took the time to graft a roadster dash and thin the body. The other picture is a 30 redone by Foose
I cut my roof off a few years back. Not a huge challenge, but there is lots of fun getting it worked out. Check the side shot in my avatar and search for my older posts. Good pics in there. I cut the windshield posts off and lowered the cross bar so it is flush with the gas tank, not above it. Where are you in Louisiana? I'm in Mandeville and the body is here. The ch***is got finished and I dropped an RPU on there for now so I can drive it. The tub is on hold, but you can come check it out if you want.
I wouln't do it,just because I really like tudors, unless I found one that had sat upside down and the top was shot. Maybe, then. Just my opinion, though.
Was going to mention this car.....I came REAL close to doing one....just ended up hammering the damaged areas out and chopped it 5.5"....the kress car was cool then and now....anyone one have any current pics?
All too often they end up looking like just what they are, a sedan with the top hacked off and not a lot of effort made to get them to to look closer to like the real deal.
