  7. Sounds like they do the shortening, and you get the shaft.

Did it myself like the tech article, but around here $75-$100 is the usual.

I used a big pipe cutter to cut it nice and straight and measured several times. Also, I took a piece of angle iron and drew an index line along the tube up to the yoke so that when I reassembled it, it was indexed the same way as before.

After tacking, I measured several times from yoke to yoke to ensure it was square.

Do it yourself, if you have a grinder, welder and a dial indicator.

I usually just find a driveshaft the right lenght. :D

The salvage yard I frequent has them hanging on a rack.
Hundreds of them. The driveshaft in my 32 Ford roadster is a 1988 Chevrolet Corvette aluminum driveshaft. I had the change the yoke ( I have a 400 Turbo ) ... but the rest is just as it left Bowling Green Ky.

A lot of the later model vehicles now come with the aluminum driveshaft ( Camaro/Explorer/Chevrolet pickups ect ) I have a Camaro aluminum driveshaft in my 32 3W ... even has the correct 700R4 yoke on it.

i have no idea what they charge around here, but we shorten our own. we make our marks where we want to cut draw a line down the marked area and cut then line up the ends of the lines and weld. grind smooth and we are done. never had a problem with balance either.
