I'm gonna try & peel off the original paint from these rear fenders we got as an "extra" pair for the '56 F100... We both like 'em 'cause the drivers side has the cut-out for the spare tire AND the dude included an original rack...BUT not the "small" parts... I've been trying forever to find so info or a photo of all this stuff installed minus the tire/wheel with NO luck but that is another post for another day... This light blue paint looks rather thin and I'm wonderin' WHAT to blast it it with thru an Eastwood 100 lb. pressurized machine? I thinkin' Black Beauty might be a little harsh...although I DO have a couple containers of that stuff that has been used 3-4 times and screned and is sort of like chrushed chalk...... -
I don't think your unit is set up for soda, that would only remove paint and not etch the surface. Gl*** bead or walnut shells might be the best, with bead giving a bit more texture to the surface. If the black beauty is that fine, it might be ok, if it will feed... I would find a piece of similar thickness and throw some paint on it and try the BB first, then pursue the others if results aren't what you were looking for...
- Media that is resilient or easily fractured is easier on metal and less aggressive. - Finer/lighter media is easier on metal and less aggressive. - The slower the media impacts the surface(lower pressure) the easier it is on the metal and the less aggressive it is. Those factors can be juggled in combinations that won't damage the metal. I would be careful about using Blank Beauty(slag), aluminum oxide, silicon carbide, or similar hard and aggressive medias on sheet metal. But, if it's fine enough, and blasted at low enough pressure, you might get away with it.
Right On!...All great ideas...Thanks a lot!...... ...RMR&C...Man that would be KOOl...here is what we DO have...obviously the fender for the driver s side...and also this rather large funky spider looking looking bracket-thing with several mounting points and "arms" facing outward from a center plate that the wheel might bolt up to... ...maybe???...I dunno...the bracket "arms" both hi & low that I'm guessing attach to the bed-side wall and maybe the floor along the edge where it meets the bed-side?...but...I swore I had a pic stored SOMEWHERE of a couple more REAL SIMPLE brackets that went along the inside of the bedside......looked like just plain 'ol angle iron OR maybe something THAT simple.... WAIT...I found ONE of the pic's I ******ed off the 'net...we DO have the large bracket in the picutre but NOT the small RED piece & cannot figure where the heck it could possibly attach! I "thought" I had another picture just like this one showing TWO brackets like the red on but it must have gotten deleted somehow...... At any rate...I can't figure out how it all goes together... -
Hey rocker! I found a good site that might help with your blasting questions www.texasblaster.com ...info includes "Blast School 101 and Compressor-Nozzle choices.
shadetree.....WOW.... Man...if I had run across that thing I'd have bought it in a second!...... I replaced ALL the gate valves & just about everything I possibly could on my lo' Eastwood blaster in looking for more "hiperformance" operation... The only thing I did NOT do is put a City Fire Department hose on it like that thing...ok,ok,...NO hose jokes...please! That's a good site...I'll have to read some more of the detailed info on pressures & stuff...THANKS again shadetree!!! -
THATs it! ALL this time I've been freakin' about a piece of angle iron...ha-ha... That is the FIRST picture of the rack INSTALLED on the bed-side I've ever seen!!! THANKS man...sorry it took so long to get back on this....had surgery & my 1-2 month recovery is "somehow" turning into 3-12 months for a "anterior cervical <WBR>discectomy and fusion"... Think it's too cold (40*) to try & get some blasting done...?...... Thanks fellas... -
No worries...... There is another angle along the bed floor for the bottom bolts, you can't see it in the pic..... As for blasting......I've done it in the snow, not fun. I need to do some also.....soon!
...I'm guessin' it just sort of has the same purpose as the upper one? Does it go thru the floor or along the bed-side at that wierd angle ~ 65* or so ...... IF we DO get MORE rain tomorrow I'm gonna rip evereything out of the bed & make SURE I did NOT miss any misc. parts! Thanks again brother...
