This is great news Troy. I saw your Dad make many passes in the original car, and being a roadster guy, I always loved it when he beat the rails. The coolest thing about the car is it's a roadster, not a top fuel car with a roadster body hung on it. I look forward to seeing it next week at the CHRR.
Yes it is,,47 yrs ago. My mom still lives in that house in Bellflower, and there's still yellow overspray on the 2 car garage floor when my dad painted the thing.
Hey Troy, Thats AWESOME!!! i'm gonna miss the debut, but i look forward to seeing it soon... you guys oughta drag it over to the broiler for a little warm up!
Thanks Mitch,,We just got done doing a warmup in front of Danny Pisanos shop. Dave drove it up & down the street a couple times making sure the brakes would hold it back,,,no problem with the loose converter. It seemed REALLY weird to see the thing sitting there idling on 85%,then Dave dropping the Powerglide into "drive" & motor away. Joel's doing routine service & next stop will be The Promised Land on Wed. Thanks, Troy
Just curious as to why the recreation has such a different header configuration from the original? The upswept zoomies just don't look right compared to the original. Jerome
I don't know how I missed this Competition Roadster post.. PERFECT..... Now for a novice question, why are the rear tires situated in the body of the car, rather than the trunk area ? Was this a rule for the roadsters, or just for the great look ?
Hi Troy - The 'new' roadster looks beautiful! About the time your dad was building the roadster my brother, Mel Squires, teamed with Lynn Welfringer, Marshall Eaton and Terry Zachovich to for the NW Frantic Four and build one similar, based on a Scotty Fenn chassis, direct drive & 331 for B Fuel Roadster class. They had success locally in the Northwest, and made several trips to So. Cal and the Bay area. They match raced the Heidelburg roadster a couple of times for the no. 1 spot on the 1320 Jr Fuel list. Your dad's car was always an inspiration to the guys - nice to see it again!
I like the weed burner headers better too, but Gary did run zoomies back in the day, so either is correct.
