Just picked up a nice 276 DeSoto Hemi with the infamous "Fluid drive". I want to go to a T-5 and was curious as to your good or bad experiences with different adaptors.
I used a Wilcap on my 392-richmond. The only thing I had to do was machine a groove for oil filter clearance. Real nice, American made product.
Thanks guys, Wilcap it is! Talked to them on the phone yesterday and I was satisfied by all the answers, but doesn't hurt to ask around.
Go for an AX15 gearbox and use the adptor plate that the engine comes with- I've done this with my 33 desoto and the 5 speed Ax15 - damn fine use of good gear and no bellhousing hassles - all parts available off the shelf
Perhaps the starter mounting plate used down under is different than those we have up here. The locating dowels are no where close to being usable with any late sbm bellhousing. Yes, I agree, the AX15 is a fine 5-speed but it needs to be properly dialed in to the crank if you expect it to last. .
