A guy i work with told me he had some old cars and parts on some of his land and if i was interested he would sell them. He said if i didnt want them he was going to take them to the s**** yard. The cars were a 53 dodge truck (complete),48 ford woody with merc flatty (pretty rough), 59 ford 300 crushed flat, and a triumph herald convert. not sure what year. Under the barn was lots of parts and a huge champion sparkplug sign with Hercules Street Rods painted at the bottom. A friend of mine told me they were located in Florida and built woodies, but thats about all ive found out. By the way I bought all the cars and he gave me everything i wanted in the barn. Thanks for any info
That is cool you were offered them rather than just crushing them for s****. The woodie is still desirable even in rough condition. There was Hercules in Florida that did a 34 woodie, they did the cowl and floor pan, it was a two door. Don't know if that company still exists or not.
I found a hercules motor car company that still does a 34. The company may have changed names and/or owners. Im gonna hopfully sell the woody to another lucky HAMBer in the hamb cl***ifieds very soon. I think the guys and gals here appreciate old iron more than most so it will only be for sale here.As soon as I get some pics it will be for sale thanks for help.
The Hercules Motor Car Company is owned by a guy named Cecil and for the life of me I don't remember his last name. I am including a link that has more information for you. They used to film the TV show Shade Tree Mechanic there along with another show that I think was called Crank and Chrome or something like that. Here the link Hercules Motor Car Company Hope this helps. Jimbo
One of Cecil's fantastic creations, a rodded vintage / rare Rolls Royce Coupe is in the Vendor hall at the SE Nats this weekend in Tampa but under the banner of another shop. This car was at Louisville this year. Perhaps he has changed names? Joined forces with a partner? But I think the build run on his woodies is over now. Anyone know for sure? Gary
the national woodie club newsletter published an article about hercules a few months ago.. according to the article the 33 / 34 woodie business was sold to someone in australia? the buyer planned to continue the construction of Hercules woodies there..and in fact the Hercules company was advertized as being in australia recently. In addition I believe Hercules made hood sides? for other vendors, perhaps specifically for 33 /34 fords?
Cecil Taylor is still in Tampa at Hercules and doing well. On of the finest automotive craftsman and all around great guy that you will ever meet.
I know this is a fairly old thread but I did stop by there a couple weeks ago. Cecil is back working on vehicles. Yes he is a very talented metal and wood guy. http://www.herculesmotorcarcompany.com/
I was emailing with Cecil ( owner of Hercules ) very recently about turning a 32 ford woodie into an opening windshield version and whats involved. I am looking at a former calif car that was sold to east coast buyer. Apparently the 32 woody windshield and cowl section were truck units, even have a different commercial rad shell. I spent a whole day it seemed touring their shop in Tampa in 2001 and even ended up visiting sam memolo and dave in the property next door at then crank and chrome. They have reduced the amount of body styles they reproduce the woodies in to only ........1932...1934 and 1937 according to their website. They definitely do some quality work there. mike
I Had an opportunity to visit Cecil in the summer of 2015, and tour his shop.. The 32 ford Woodie under construction for the nsra giveaway is without a doubt be incredible.
