I wish. Those things are deadly. I've only ever seen em in pictures. If I can find one, I will def add it.
Will using the two p*** side manifolds cause clearance issues if I bag the car in the front? Just wondering, but I guess I will find that out the hard way. Lol
I am in the process of building a 57 poncho that was a 4 door (now a 2 door), so let me know if you need parts. You can also check out my build thread here: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=626398&highlight=57+pontiac
A little update on the Poncho....... Got a majority of the bodywork done over the last few days (well at lest the stuff that would be very visible from the outside. We don't make show cars, but we like our rigs to look good, but never perfect. Not so shiney chrome is ok with us. She should be in paint in a couple of days. Kinda weird colour combo but hopefully it works out.
Should have a 389 in it unless it has the optional 421...stamped numbers at the lower p***enger's side front of block will tell the story. 98% of them were 389s.
Update on the poncho. SO, the 400 SBC is gonna need to bored over and I had another donor motor, but that ended up being toast also. SO, I went out and got meself another SBC to go into her. It's coming into winter and I really need to be able to move her around under her own power while I finish off the suspension etc. I will post pics later, but I don't think I've ever been this excited about putting a motor in before.
Thx man. I haven't, but I will. I've been sooo busy outside of work to do anything. Finally back to work and now I am able to do all my browsing etc. LOL
The blue example car is sweet, but please do not remove that awesome hood trim or the hood emblem, they are so uber cool. Good luck with the project, these are way cool rides. ~sololobo~
Never!! That's the whole reason I like these cars. The trim is awesome. I wld like to get a lighted hood rocket but either way I'm keeping the trim. I had toyed around with the idea of putting a 56 bumper on the 55 but we will see what happens.
The 327 that I was given was toast, so that was a non runner, The airbags I got for her, The SBC that is going into her this weekend and the car as it sits right now. Coz, I know you guys are pic hungry (just like me)
Well, the SBC went in this weekend. The motor mounts were from a 63 BelAir and the brackets were fab'd. It turned out fricken sweet and ran real nice, even without any mufflers etc.
BTW that is a chieftan, not a star chief.... really like the look , 55's are my favorite of the tri5 ponchos
Thx man. I just found that out the other day. The PO told me it was a chieftan and then said it was a Starchief. I didn't know how to change the thread so I just left it.
hell yeah i got a 4d00r also but still have the 287 stratostreak with hydromatic bringing her home from storage for christmas yours is looking good you should ditch the edelbrock valve covers though
Motor is in and runs good. For now I am waiting on the driveline to be shortened to work with the th350. I managed to find the rear u-joint at autozone for $23 which wasn't bad. I've been working on the wiring mostly and managed to find the original ignition switch in the trunk in a box of ****. I now have almost everything working, with the exception of the blinkers. Man, does it feel good to get in and turn that key. Kinda loud with just the manifolds on there, but very cool. Attached are a few pics....
Yeah, I agree. I wanted to use the old skool Chevy ones but no breather hole. I am looking for something more retro for when she goes on the road.
I drove this '55 Catalina for 18 years(pic from '87) Had a .040 over '57 short block (about 340 ci) with a tri-power cam and modified 4 speed Hydro, p/s, p/b. It ran great, was comfortable and I loved driving it. But my wife wanted a newer car... I regretted selling it from the moment the guy drove away....
Very cool car. I like the colors you chose. Getting cold here recently, have another few weeks to play before garage time. Cheers!
Maybe his is like my '56....the heater won't shut off! Just work on the inside of the car with the engine running! Out of all the stuff I did to my car to get it back on the road, body work, etc. one of the most satisfying things was to get my clock working again! Sounds weird, but its a rarity to find one that works!
Yeah, I hear ya. It's the little things that count. Plus, it's getting pretty hard to find them nowadays.
These 55-56 Canadian Pontiac covers would be really nice , but the staggered bolt pattern for 57 and older heads would have to be changed, and the fact they would be hard to find. Probably some nice finned covers would work though. Or just put a Pontiac engine in there.
