1963 approved chute pack for A/Altered at Ct. Dragway was a Military Surplus O.D. Canvas Cargo chute pack. The chute itself was a ribbon chute sorry no pics though
Not trying to turn this into a ******* contest there bub!I need to get one made for my AWB project so I'm researching what a PERIOD CORRECT pack looks like. The newer ones are different looking then the old.
My 1962 A/A chute pack construction looked just like this only done in OD canvas. I know it was from a military cargo chute because it was stenciled on the back with the information on the back.
diest made one for me for a 1964 ribbon chute 16 ft it ended up being 14x14 . it huge and cool . i also have one of Big Daddy's frome the 60's .. may have some pics
Absolutely correct other than it won't be worn out yet a new chute pack looks just like an old one. Maybe a different color if you are looking at using an old military chute bag. The original "Drag Chute" was made from a surplus air force ribbon chute by Diest while he was working for Air Chute. He invented the spring board for them to make sure they would clear the back of the car. It debuted at Lions on the back of his 54 Lincoln. If you want to look real original find an old air force ribbon chute along with its bag, sew a Diest label on it and then try to p*** tech with it.
Who can make one thats just like this complete with belts and hooks?Deist doesn't seem to interested in doing it now that Mr. Deist p***ed away.I need it bigger like 12x12x8in.
Take the picture some canvas and go to a good upholstery shop, or take out your checkbook, some good names drop and call diest back. The upholstery shop is going to be your cheapest route, if you have the cash Diest will probably make it for you, just keep dialing untill you talk to the right person. You are revamping a real race car aren't you? Make sure that they understand that you are restoring a real historical vehicle that helps.
It would be relatively easy to make if you can s***ch interiors. The belts are made from heavy elastic for stretch and covered with a slicker material than the bag so they slide and not stick. The hooks and catches could be from piano wire. Just use tent maker grommets for the retaining clip holes. You can buy Deist patches on eBay.
Yes, some of the older packs were huge, about 20"x20". Some of them were so big they looked like the chute would fall out of them at any time.
I'm not sure the denim patch on top is SEMA approved! Larry T Just measured this one. It's a Simpson--9" X 9".
Porkn******,took your advice!Found a guy at Deist that understood what I needed, getting it done man!Thank for your help all of you.H.A.M.B rocks!
my new one from deist . looks just like this . i will try to snap a pic tonight .. they made mine for $129. i sent them my ribbon chute and the made it to fit
Your right forgot that my chute had a cloth covered coil spring inside I guess mine was a stock military surplus chute because there were no other markings on it.
