Good luck! Hopefully I'll be seeing it around, I'm only a town away from Fallbrook!

  2. i agree with some of the other posters as far as leaving it a sedan (i personally like the lines of those sedans). dont get me wrong im all for customising but that looks like a fairly tidy body you got there. if it were mine id do that up standard body wise, drop it down a bit an hop up the flattie. i do love seeing those sedan to coupe conversions being done but id be happier to see it done with a basket case of a body as was done with the swedish car that was your inspiration (also see koolkemp's build thread). that being said it is your car, do with it what you will and il be watchin this thread to see how it all turns out. good luck

I have a '36 Sedan because when I bought it I had two small sons and figured we would use it as a family car to go on runs in. Well, by the time we went through two houses and raised those boys the car became a lesser priority and they were grown before I was able to get it driveable !!! I wish I'd bought the coupe..............

  4. i just picked up a 4 door humpback. im gona turn it into a 5 window. staring to make some dies to make the lines for the trunk area. i think im going to use a 39-40 ford deck lid for the back half.

  5. Ok so I bet you all were thinking things fizzled. Not so. I just had to think on things a bit. The main thing I struggled with was the chassis. Do I keep it stock or do i cut that too? Or even repace it outright with something that would get me kicked off the HAMB. Well I have decided that I didnt have the heart (or the time) (Or brains) (Or talent) to chop up the frame too. So there goes the Idea of widening the car (many would say thats for the best). What you will see in the pictures is that I am extending the doors about 5 inches. It will give the car a chopped top look without loosing the headroom. Since the floors are toast Im planning on raising the floor in the rear upwards of 6 inches to get the Taildragger stance I want. Im trying to get it to a point that it would be safe to move it because there is looking like there will be one more move in my near future. I did the drivers side first and learned a few things about where to cut. No major problems yet. Ignorance is bliss.

Should have read the whole post first. That looks great but now you have to factor in the money for a baby sitter every time you plan on taking the car anywhere or bag having a girlfriend.

Just found this build thread, good luck with the project!

  11. Time for a little update. Basically I got the passenger side to match the drivers side and then tacked it in place. I'm extending the doors about 6 inches to give the illusion of a chop but still have some headroom and leg room. Everything has gone pretty well. As I tacked it all together I had some strain so i ended up taking out about a 2 inch pie shaped piece from the curvature of the rear roof. Once i fill the gap in the midline between the two cab sides it should be secure and ready for my upcoming move. I figure my next task is to move the door jambs back the 6 inches necessary to match the window opening. Then I will work on the channel. I plan on about 6 inches in the rear. Im putting off the trunk area to last as it seems like it will be the toughest part. Also a little inspiration pic that I took at the GNRS.

Now that you're into it, I have to say I don't get the widening part. The sedan to coupe part is great, but you're losing all proportion by adding the width. I'm just say'n...

  14. Yeah, I gave up on that. Just too much to bite off THIS time. I guess that thought came from my experience with a 37 dodge coupe. Driving around in that car felt like driving around in a VW bug. If I ever do that I will have to enlarge all proportions equally. That would be cool.

Just found this build thread, good luck with it, there can't be too many 35/36 3Window builds out there.

NOT widened and not gonna be...he gave up on that! (Thank you! :D)

I think the gap in the roof section is due to the center of the car being naturally wider than the rear section that the roof originally matched.

You're off to a good start! Keep it going!!!

  19. If I remember correctly the back of the sedan top is considerably more narrow than a coupe top...thus why he had to widen the top???

  20. Dude, i'm impressed you're hanging in there.

Only thing i can see wrong with this is that "that guy Geir from Sweden" is actually a Norwegian! ;) (see your opening post!)

Hope to see more updates soon!
    Cheers

You have all the hard stuff done on that ole hump, why not hop up the flatty and forget the chop job.

How much work would it take to install a 1940 Coupe trunk lid? Years ago when Boyd built that Coors Coupe it had a '40 style lid, they never mentioned it in the build, but I've always thoungt it would flow well.

running a 283 with a stock trans would be the most affordable way to go but the trans leaves alot to be desired in the strenght dept..... if three pedals isnt an issue , check out chassis engineering ..if your fab skills aren't up to par yet, they offer affordable trans mounts(turbo 350) and simple rear end install kit that a monkey can install,, just my opinion..its affordable and easy and you'll be on the road that much quicker with a more dependable drivetrain!

  25. Sorry to my friends in Norway. Here are some new pics. Tex Smith said in his book about chopping tops ( although Im not chopping the top ) that the roof off a 53-36 F 100 makes a good donor roof to fill the insert panel. Just so happens I have a friend with a burned out F-100 that was willing to be a donor. I hope that the fact that it was in a fire doesnt weaken the material. I have just finished de rusting it with the electrolosis technique : washing soda and a battery charger. I used an english wheel to remove some of the curveature in the panel. Also I have decided to turf the rolling chassis to a friend of mine. He has probably put together 10 or more cars in his life time and is a mechanic by trade. Im not sure if I can talk about the plan with out getting booed off the site so Ill keep that part under wraps for now.

I like the idea of a 40 trunk lid. I think I have seen that done more than once. It seems to work well on the back of these type of cars better than a small opening. Since it isnt going to be a stocker anyways it may be the way to go. I will have to look around and see if anyone has one for less than ol bob D.

I have it setting on a rolling table at approx ride height. Before removal it was braced well. Ill work the roof through to completion and then decide what to tackle next its either rear or doors... I hope to have the chassis back in 6 months or so.

What a cool 36, you can have another 36 coupe or a rare 36 trunkback sedan. Devil's advocate, nothin cooler than a 36 coupe. Good luck bro. ~sololobo~

  28. Little update on the roof filler panel. Got it in about 75% of the way just the back edge to do... running into some strain at the rear curveatures of the roof so Ive been placing some more pie cuts in to get things to flow.

That roof looks completely wrong Have you pushed it outside for a decent look?? Looks like a VW Hebmuller......

  30. I agree.....I think you need to take a look at it and compare it to a 3 window. Now is the time to make the changes......good on you though to take this on. Subsribed.
