Was at the Pomona swap this weekend and picked up a set of '59 Caddy lights. I had seen someone else install a set of these on a '56 Pontiac where the turn signals were, and always loved the look. So....I did it too. Turn signals don't work anyway, so i wired them into the brake/running lights for now. What do you guys think? I'm sure some will love, some will hate, but it turned out just the way I wanted. Pics are kind of ****ty, but you get the idea.
It turned out how you wanted. Period... It really doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. I don't like going to car shows seeing cookie cutter cars, l like stuff thats different. Oh and for what it's worth, I dig it.
Those Caddy tail lights set the standard for cool years ago. I still like them...so good for you..... (I do agree though that you might want to shorten them a bit) But your car...and good luck with it ! Cheers....
This. But leadhead does bring up a point, they do stick out enough that they might get smashed, but if you can live with that I think they look good. Besides, it's YOUR car and if YOU like it then all is well. As long as you don't put LED digital lights in em
thanks guys. I always loved the style of the '59 caddy, and had been on the lookout for a set of these lights to set my car apart. I agree they would look cleaner if they were a little shorter, but I'm satisfied as is. Thanks for the feedback!
Was thinking of using on my 54, frenched in the stock location.. Just haven't got that far yet. I dig
Looks good...but if you think those are *****in', check out the lenses in my son's '59 Caddy -hand blown gl*** -he did them himself. R-
only because you asked, I dont like them. they look ok on a 59 caddy, but they are overused on other cars. they look out of place on the back of a pontiac, and take away from the shape of the car. BUT, its your car, and you need to do what makes you happy. Thats what makes this stuff great.
First off this is an old thread. Lowering, flake, scallops, louvers etc are "overdone" also. The thing is, if something is right, it just is. Now granted those blown gl*** lens are works of art and super cool but what makes the 59 Caddy lights still cool is because it's something even a kid pumping gas could have done to customize his car. So simplistic and done a lot? Sure but there is a reason. Indeed custom tricks work or not on the eye of the beholder.
Probably the reason the turn signals didn't work was that is where the backup lights are located. The turn signals are incorporated into the main tail lamps. Personally I don't think they look right but I don't like 59 Cadillac taillights anyway.
40Stude - holy **** that is probably the coolest thing I have ever seen. Hand blown gl*** caddy brake lights...now that is just amazing! I'm really stoked on that - great job! Thanks everyone else for the comments. I know they aren't for everyone, but I've been in love with the '59 Caddy since the day I saw one as a kid, and even though I'll probably never own one, I loved being able to integrate a bit of my favorite car into my Pontiac. I have got a lot of **** from people about my ride. Its a 4 door, why waste your time, its a piece of ****, blah blah blah. I really don't give a ****, its my car and its going to have every thing that I think is cool bolted, welded, taped or painted on to it because I'm building it the exact way that I want! I appreciate everyone's responses on here, I like the people who say they hate these lights because they are over used just as much as I respect the guys who are digging them on my car. Thats what this is all about - we are all just building the cars that we dreamed of, and what good are car guys if we don't sit around and discuss it all day long? haha Edit: Safariknut - you're right, thanks for making such an important addition to the discussion here. As everyone probably figured out already, I replaced the reverse lights with the caddy lights and wired them in to the brake/running lamps/turn signals. The turn signal relay still needs to be fixed.
I saw someone else do that.. maybe it was you when you originally posted. I think they look like little jet engines on the back of your car, kinda cool. Just one question.. when are you going to fix your turn signals?
