Holy S--t, after my last thread about shifting problems w/ my top loader, I have been looking for GL4 ,non synthetic gear oil. Hen's teeth would probably be easier. finally found the proper oil I need, Pennzoil Gear Plus but nobody carries it. Even talked to Shell/Pennzoil distribution in Houston. Am going to use Lucas GL4/GL5 non synthetic in the mean time. Still looking for Pennzoil, willing to buy 5Gal. pail if needed. Seeya.....
My off-topic car has a reputation for hard shifting, especially into second, especially if the wrong lubricant is used. Many swear by Redline 75W90NS. The factory specified Shell Spirax G which is a non-synthetic GL4 and is sold at Pep Boys.
Go to NAPA and ask for Sta-Lube Multi Purpose Hypoid SAE 85W90 Gear Oil, API/GL-4, Part Number SL24239 for the 1 Gal size.
I have to use GL4 for an old Vespa scooter I ride to work. None of the auto-parts places seem to stock it, but try a motorcycle shop. I ended up getting some Motul GL4 from the local Vespa dealership.
I searched all the local auto parts houses/farm supply stores etc. looking for GL-4 and couldn't find it. Found Redline offers it and I ordered it on line.......UPS delivered it in a few days. Ray
I can get it at my local parts store as sta-lube 24229 http://www.crcindustries.com/ei/content/prod_detail.aspx?S=Y&PN=SL24229 I've been told it's a must for old ford trans as it won't harm the yellow parts.
