I hate to drill & tap my Cragar 4X2 intake manifold for a vacume source for the PVC. Any other thoughts or ideas?

  2. What's wrong with pulling vacuum off of the base of one of the carbs???

I drilled and tapped the adapters for my carbs and yoked then together. Unlike a vacuum advance air is actually sucked into the manifold which can lean out the mixture for that portion of the intake. It will be a PITA to yoke 4 carbs together but I personally believe that it will reduce any risk of a burned piston and better than drilling a valuable rare intake. JMHO

I am running Stromberg 97's and they have no vacume ports. As Tommy has shown in his picture he has adapters that he plumbed together to avoid leaning out the mixture in that part of the intake. Good idea but I am still thinking about drilling & tapping a port in top of the plenum between #3 & #4 carbs. The Cragar is a open plenum type manifold. Any other thoughts?

You should look for PCV fittings instead of PVC ones, they might melt.

  6. HA HA HA that is exactly what I was thinking...

How about some carb spacers with a PCV port in them???

Ive got the same intake. Tap the bottom and spin in a 90degree fitting and run an inline pcv.

If you change your mind you can weld it back up. I cut the waternecks off and welded slugs in. then polished.

  11. You want a HOT ROD with a 4x2 intake, like pre pcv, let it smoke a little out the breathers ! Why do you think you have to have a pcv anyhow ?

Yeah, but a PCV system does a much better job.

I was thinking it was more of a staggered 4-2 intake and not an inline. It should work just fine with the additional air being equidistant from all the valves.

Any non factory hole could easily be welded up if some where down the road you or someone else wants to eliminate it. JMO

Ok, Road draft tube is gone. I have a finned valley cover with a PCV valve opening.
Valve covers will have breathers to let air in and the PVC to suck it out. I don't want any blowby coming out the top so a PCV will work good. I don't think I will need the extra 15 horses. HAHA
Thanks to Rob Paul for a good idea to drill and tap the bottom of the manifold. Nice & neat and well hidden.

Just to let you know I dont have a pcv valve. I drilled and tapped the bottom of the intake and ran a vacuum line the the dizzy. I have a breather on each valve cover, and no blow-by.

    Here another shot or two.
