I’m trying to figure out the when, where, how, and why of Ford two barrels. It looks like in the post-flathead, pre-Mustang era Ford went from using a Holley 94-derived carburetor to the Holley 2300 and the Autolite 2100, but I can’t figure out what was used when, and where. Can anybody help? Which is the better carburetor, and why?

    Thanks,

    Dave

The last p***enger car that used a 94 style two barrel was '56. The '57 Y blocks used the more modern Holley 2300. I'm not sure if trucks made the switch at the same time. The '56 ECG carbs are good for a bit more airflow on a flathead.

Cool. Anyone know how long the 2300 stuck around on production models?

  4. The Ford/Autolite 2100 was first introduced in 1957 and was installed on applications till 1974 and it was the only Ford two-barrel carburetor used from 1957 through the early 70's. Reputed to be the best 2bbl, however, finding the jets are few and far between compared to the Holley.

  5. The Holley 2300 carb was used on SOME OEM applications on certain engines from 1957 to around 1963, more so on heavy duty trucks using the throttle housing mounted governor.

I have heard mention of using a later Autolite or other carb on a 49 Mercury intake manifold. What carb would be good to use on the flathead Mercury with the four stud hold down for the carb without alterations .Thanks, Jack
